I got a great letter in the mail on Friday, it was from the Montana FWP. I had been selected from the pool of unsuccessful
deer combo applicants for a second chance at a combo license.
They said there were 723 lic. left over and they would be sold on a first come basis.
It would have been $26 to FedEx the app. with overnight delivery but thought that was a little steep so sent it first class and will be there Tuesday.
These were probably left over outfitter tags. Either way it's a 72.3% chance. I like the odds!!

Did you have a preference point(s) from last year? I didn't. I've heard some of those with preference points get the second chance.

No points from last year, I drew a tag last year.
They just said they randomly drew 1000 names and sent out the applications. They must have not sold all the outfitter tags.

Three of the fellows in our group who put in for the Deer Combo draw and were un-successful all received letter last week along with appl's to apply for a "first come-first served" deer tags.
Something about 6000 non-successful applicants. The F&G decided to issue 726 deer tags and chose 1000 appl's and sent them their letters. So the fastest 726 appl's to reach the office will be given their Deer Combo tags for this year.
I do not know if this is a Non-resident thing, but would hope that it applies to residents too.

My friends got their letters last Thursday and they sent them back to MT F&G on Friday by Priority Mail, and they envelope should have been there in office yesterday.

Just a guess on my part, but if they receive the appl's one day and there are still tags left, that they would print and mail out that day or the next.
