Cabela's Muley Display

Went to the Cabela's in Kansas City again this weekend on my way thru, and was once again blown away by the magnitude of the deer they have in their "Mule Deer County" exhibit. For those of you who are really hurting for a fix, get in the car and drive! You will not be disappointed. Several of the top 20 B&C muleys, and a lot of just outstanding specimens. Also had the WA state record Elk and several other really impressive elk in there this time that were not there last time.

On another note, they must be hosting the B&C festivities this year or something b/c they had several areas cleared out upstairs and had on temporary display several trophies, including some coues (picked up?) by Kirk Kelso, and that monster whitetail killed by the kid in Iowa last fall. It was just up on the wall in a back room...my wife and kids and I were all alone with it...so we hung the baby on the wall, put the head in the stroller and took off running! (Not really, but it would have made for an interesting,"What are you in jail for?" story.)

What an amazing display of incredible animals...muskox, sheep, mtn. lions, deer, elk (2 of Chuck Adams'), Bison, etc. Anybody know about this B&C stuff being there? Kirk Kelso?

B&C is holding their 25th Awards and Banquet there in another week or so. Cabela's is where the heads were being stored for the Panel judging of mounts. That is why you so so many outstanding heads there. In fact, a friend and hunting partner has his B&C non-typical Muley there and be there next week for the grand affair and awards program.

I have seen some incredible collections.
It's almost a shame that you can't admire each tremendous animal one at a time as they all kind of get lost in in the overwhelming magnitude of the collection!
I'll bet it is some sight to see!

Hoosierbuck,

I am leaving on a family vacation down to Texas in 3 weeks. Will be hitting Bass Pro Shop in Springfield on the way south, then may return through Kansas City. I thought for sure the Loevsten Iowa buck was at Bass Pro. Read it several places online. Are you sure about this?

It's a pretty unbelievable collection, isnt it! My home away from home... Cabelas blows away Bass pros exibits in my humble opinion.
Bass Pro did buy that Iowa buck (per the latest Hunting mag), but they may have it there for the B&C thing, or maybe its a replica?

LAST EDITED ON Jun-02-04 AT 09:20AM (MST)[p]It is there specially for the B&C thing. Read the placque-Taken by Tony Lovstuen and owned by Bass Pro Shops. I'll e-mail you a pic, Ken...

P.S. Harry-You are 100% correct. I bet there are close to 60 "once in a lifetime" bucks in that one room. I told my wife that any one of them is worth the amount of time we spent looking at all of them. By the time I walk out of there (been thru it about 6 times) I am about numb. I bet normal people that walk thru there think these bucks are the norm. Mama even said something to me about my overuse of the phrase "Once in a lifetime." (Referring to the critters, natch.)

HB, Can you please resend that photo? I saw it and accidentally deleted it with my exessive junk mail.

I was there this last fall and took lots of video. The entry into the muley hall has the colorado typical muley which I believe it said was the world record typical muley, what a collection and I can enjoy it whenever I want now.

For anyone that can make the trip, you should definitely see the Boone and Crockett exhibit before it is gone (about June 20th). It is probably the best assembly ever. Eight new World's Records, the two biggest whitetails ever taken by hunters, two elk over 440", a set of 80" moose horns. You will go away in shock! It is truly a great exhibit.

I know last summer they had a bunch of heads from Utah in there several of them was in the Utah biggest buck book just see them up close and thinking how it would be seeing them out in the wild, if you ever get close to KC you owe it to your self to go and see this collection of heads.

I hope they hurry up and build that Cabelas in Utah so they can move that " Mule deer country" exhibit to where it really belongs, in " Mule deer country". Or at least a temporary visit.

Just thought I'd share a sample of what type of mounts that Cabela's have at some of their retail stores. They really are some unbelievable bucks. Enjoy. headbones.

For those that live in Texas, Cabelas plans to build on a 140 acre site in Buda. That's just :15 South of Austin. Heard that news the other day on a San Antonio radio station. Adios Academy.
