Pagosa Springs

I see some of the MM Members mention that they hunt around the Pagosa Springs area. Anybody taken any bragging size Elk in those parts. I hunted that area quite a bit in the 80S & 90S but have not been their in 5 years. Going back this Archery season. I haven't taken anything that would top 300 but I know that there may be a few out there.. How has your hunting been and is the hunting pressure still pretty intense.

might want to try wimminuche around purto blanco and east fork of the peadra, you can access from turkey creek or cread. i have hunted there for over 10 years. by the wayyou will need good stock,since its 17+ miles over12,000' passes.good luck!!!

I've also hunted there since 94, I've only seen 1 bull that was impressive come out of that area, lots of smaller bulls unless you pack in to the Wemeneuce, good hunting

I thought more people hunted this area. I guess that is a good thing. My best Elk have come from the Weminuche but I will be hutning the low country and won't be to picky, a cow will do. Just looking forward to checking out some of my old haunts and semellin some of those musty bulls and fresh mountain air.
