2004 New Mexico Lt. Governor's Deer Enhancement Tag Information
In 2003 the New Mexico legislature passed, and Governor Bill Richardson signed a law authorizing the first statewide deer enhancement tags in NM history. These tags are significant because the money raised from them will be used to enhance deer habitat throughout the entire state of New Mexico.
The hunter who wins or purchases either tag will have an unprecedented four month season which runs from September 1st 2004 to December 31st 2004. This presents a unique opportunity to hunt record book deer throughout the rut. The tags allow for hunting throughout the entire state of New Mexico on public land, and on private land through personal arrangement with the landowner. The tag is valid for any antlered Mule Deer or Coues Whitetail Deer.
Numerous areas of New Mexico consistently produce huge trophy Mule Deer. New Mexico also boasts a quality population of Coues Whitetail deer.
One tag is to be awarded to the highest bidder in a public auction and the other is to be awarded to a winner in a random raffle drawing. The auction will be conducted by the Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) at their annual convention February 13 ? 15, 2004 in Reno Nevada.
The raffle will be conducted by the San Juan Chapter of MDF located in Farmington NM. The drawing will be held at the Farmington MDF banquet on July 23, 2004.
Tickets for the raffle tag may be purchased by mailing payment to PO Box 1284 Flora Vista, NM 87415 by phone with a major credit card 505-793-8476 or by email at [email protected].
You can sell this tag. At Reno the tag went for $35,000.
Note I am handling the raffle and we have only sold 100 tickets as of June 16th.
The 90% of the money goes to NM Mule Deer via NM Game and Fish. The other goes for raffle expenses and MDF.
