2004 New Mexico Lt. Governor's Deer Enhancement Tag Information

In 2003 the New Mexico legislature passed, and Governor Bill Richardson signed a law authorizing the first statewide deer enhancement tags in NM history. These tags are significant because the money raised from them will be used to enhance deer habitat throughout the entire state of New Mexico.

The hunter who wins or purchases either tag will have an unprecedented four month season which runs from September 1st 2004 to December 31st 2004. This presents a unique opportunity to hunt record book deer throughout the rut. The tags allow for hunting throughout the entire state of New Mexico on public land, and on private land through personal arrangement with the landowner. The tag is valid for any antlered Mule Deer or Coues Whitetail Deer.

Numerous areas of New Mexico consistently produce huge trophy Mule Deer. New Mexico also boasts a quality population of Coues Whitetail deer.

One tag is to be awarded to the highest bidder in a public auction and the other is to be awarded to a winner in a random raffle drawing. The auction will be conducted by the Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) at their annual convention February 13 ? 15, 2004 in Reno Nevada.

The raffle will be conducted by the San Juan Chapter of MDF located in Farmington NM. The drawing will be held at the Farmington MDF banquet on July 23, 2004.

Tickets for the raffle tag may be purchased by mailing payment to PO Box 1284 Flora Vista, NM 87415 by phone with a major credit card 505-793-8476 or by email at [email protected].

You can sell this tag. At Reno the tag went for $35,000.

Note I am handling the raffle and we have only sold 100 tickets as of June 16th.

The 90% of the money goes to NM Mule Deer via NM Game and Fish. The other goes for raffle expenses and MDF.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-16-04 AT 02:04PM (MST)[p]30inchbuck,
Welcome to the site. I don't know if this is a joke or what but our handle names are very close to the same. I would appreciate it if you would consider changing yours since I've been here for awhile and have made over 100 posts. I think people will get us mixed up to be the same individual.
Thanks

I got an idea....whichever 30inchbuck(s) can show us a picture of THEIR 30" buck then they get to keep the name. Sound fair??

LAST EDITED ON Jun-16-04 AT 02:28PM (MST)[p]Watch it Muleyslyr or somebody might log in under a name similiar to yours and start posting all over the place. LOL! Two can play at this game. LOL!

The price of the raffle tickets are $20.

July 23rd is the draw date.

30inchbucks - I will attempt the change.

Well I did not mean it as a joke or anything like that.

I just picked this out of the air and the site accepted it. I looked around on changing it but could not find a way.

You could just log in under a whole new name. And use that one instead. You may want to go look under profiles to make sure this don't happen again. Check your inbox. We can also communicate that way if you have any other questions. Thanks

How about "lookingfor30inchbucks" or "melikes30inchbucks" or "meWANTS30inchbucks"....just some ideas....LOL!!

The names are entered into a spreadsheet with corresponding ticket numbers. When you purchase tickets the numbers are sent to you via postcard. At the banquet cards with numbers are thrown into a bin. In which someone from either from the game & fish or govenors office will draw a ticket. It will be matched with the name. I am sure with 100 people plus at the banquet/drawing that there will be plenty of witnesses to the fairness.

Yes I will post it here and on hunting.net. Also I am sure national will post it. www.muledeer.org

For the record Dusty, I wasn't questioning the raffle. I'm very excited and can hardly wait till July 23rd, if I don't get picked I have yet another write off and have done my part as a sportsman to help the critters that taste good over mesquite. Its a win win... except for that monster buck I WILL plug if drawn!! Thanks again for your help.

On another note...if one of youe WERE drawn for one of these hunt of a lifetime tags would you hunt it or sell it? Just curious what the consensus is....

This hunt of a lifetime would be exactly that, and you can't put a price on "lifetime" type opportunities. I'd neither hunt it or sell it, I'd cough it up to my Dad and give him a chance at the buck of HIS lifetime. He deserves it more than I do, afteralL, if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have this muley-itis.

Dusty,

Talked to you last week but forgot to ask who I make the check or money order out to? Just need that info. to send off for a ticket.

Hey 30inchbuck

If you draw the raffle ticket is there a cost for the tag? Are they selling tickets at the banquet as well? Can out of staters but tickets? Do you have to be at the banquet to win? Thanks!

There is no cost for the tag.

Yes Credit cards are accepted.

You do not have to be present to win.

Out-of-staters can buy tickets.

We will sell tickets at the banquet

30inchbuck, how many tickets have they sold so far? I can't wait to hear the results of the drawing. I'm feeling lucky! Ya right! Be sure and let us know as soon as you find out who drew the tag ok.

Good luck to all who purchased tickets.

We ended up selling 670 tickets total. We sold over 250 the night of the banquet.

I believe that we are going to be selling raffle tickets again for next year. I will post when I know for sure.

Another guy bought 50

With alot of people buying anywhere from 1 to 10

Now that's gamblin'. sure would suck to be the one that bought 90 and lost. The real winners are the animals that money will help....good work.
