anyone spend time hunting mulies near spencer north to montana. came back from a trip thru there looks like there should be some good bucks there somewhere ans not to many people close as in boise valley........ any thoughts........went to dubois and ordered some custom boots from a gentlemen there that has couple dang big bull elk from around there....... thanks

I spent several years hunting between Dubois and Spencer while I was going to school in Rexburg. Send me an email and I will give you some details. That area gets pounded hard by the Idaho Falls crew, however, most of them ride their 4 wheelers around and since the implemented the new ATV rules, it may not be so bad anymore.

You will have a better chance above Kilgore close to the Montana border should see a few more bigger bucks. It is straight east of spencer . Both places have thier share of hunters though .

I know that area well. Killed both my first deer and elk not far from Spencer. On the East side of I-15 you might as well put in for the either sex controlled hunt 60-2* which is open from Oct. 5th - Nov. 17th for bucks or Oct. 5th - Nov. 30th for does. It is a better deer hunting area for someone looking to put some meat in the freezer than horns on the wall.
There are a few good bucks in there if you are willing to work for them but you have a real slim chance of killing a B&C buck. If you look at the Idaho record books there is only one buck listed for Clark County. The deer that winter in the Sand Creek area did really well with over 90% of the collard fawns surviving as of mid May.

thanks for info. country just looks "bucky" to me especially the montana side. will make a scouting trip over there in august. appreciate all help.......

It is beautful country...however, don't fool yourself, there are still plenty of hunters. You'll be fighting for your ridge come day break.
