Well I am a big fat loser as far as the Idaho draws go. Anybody else do any better than me?
Shane

I didn't draw a thing like normal. And I don't even get a point to show that I made an effort. We're all in the same boat as before what a joke.

I am out of town and not near my license so that I can check my results!!!!!! I have to wait until I get home!!!!
THis is a bummer.

Nothing for me either...I'm getting used to the general season hunts anyway. There's always next year, or the next, or the next....(story of my life!!)

Not a GD thing as usual. Damn i'm getting sick of not drawing. Ten years in a row for me. I'm sure all my buddies that draw everytime will get there tags again. I think i'll change my name or something. And then to rub it in a non res get's the super slam!!! Unless he's rich or retired, he will never have the time to come out here and make an honest effort for all species. Pisses me off!

I'm out of the draw for deer this year, because of the waiting period.
Antelope, no tag.
Elk, I got a second choice draw for muzzleloader elk, a cow hunt.

I can't even believe my luck! I drew 11a for deer and 48 (october hunt)for elk! On top of that I have a deer tag for 33 in Nevada and deer tag for wagontire in Oregon and Ukiak for elk in Oregon! It should be a great October! Brian

No license for me either. I have never drawn in Idaho. I thought maybe this year would be the one. I'll be archery hunting at home in Wyoming plus muzzleloader in Colorado..

Absolutley nothing, zilch, nadda, crappola. 4 yrs of nothing since becoming an idaho resident.....starting to get pissed.

Looks like all I have to look forward to know is the last supertag drawing. One more chance!
Who all put in for the supertag this year?
YB

45-2 October muzzleloader deer! I've been on a roll, my wife says I need to go buy a lotto ticket! Good luck guys

I lucked out again... Unit 33 muzzleloader deer and unit 42 rifle antelope.... I can't wait....

Don't you guys still have some sweet hunts for the general season though? Man, some of those units would be like hunting with a special permit here.

Our family drew absolutely nothing with 9 chances to draw. I guess that is way it goes...but 2 years without any controlled hunts is tough....I guess I am lucky listening to some of your guys' stories though. I guess it will be general season archery for me.

Muleyslyr:: Yes we really do have some pretty good general season hunts that you can be successful in if you put in your time. It is just really nice to have a limited amount of people and hunting in the prime time for that paticular controlled hunt.

Heck, if you bow hunt you can hunt general season antelope, and hunt elk during the rut in most cases. But it seems to all come down to scouting, hunting skills, and hard work no matter what tag you have.

This is the 9th year in a row that I have tried and not drawn for an antelope tag.

However, I did draw my buck tag, this was my second attempt. It's a new area for me, so I have lots of scouting and research to do this summer.

I have not drawn an Idaho deer tag in seven attempts. I am beginning to believe that I will never draw. Not a single person in my family or any of my hunting buddies drew. I am beginning to believe that the whole thing is fixed. I know a few people who draw a premier hunt every other year for deer and elk. I think the IDFG needs to bring in an outside agency to perform the draw.

Hang in there guys. My dad, cousin and myself drew on the limited Magic hunt unit 52. We all put in separate. We have also been on a dry spell. The draw is like huntin sometimes it takes alot of patience. Luck never hurts either

I'm sorry but I gotta laugh. I'm hearing some of you complain about applying in Id for 3 or 4 years and not drawing.
Amatures!
I've been playing the Id controlled hunt game for 24 years and have drawn 0!
Thats right 0+24 in my own home state!
In my opinion Foo+Goo is selecting special groups of hunters for thier controlled hunt tags.
Ever notice the ammount of females, handicapped, and junior license holders recieve controlled tags every year?
I believe Foo+Goo cater to these people in order to generate more interest in hunting.
Last year I requested an audit of the controlled hunt program and it was denied.
No one oversees the program. Foo+Goo is doing its own thing with no body watching. Of course the same people draw all the time.
Id needs to go to an honest bonus/preference point system like every other state has.
If youre fed up, dont ##### here.
Call/write the Governors office and CC Foo+Goo.

I hear all this talk about not drawing for 7+ years and I think it is a bunch of crap too....especially 24 years! I have been pretty lucky when it comes to draws if I think about it....I have drawn a unit 39 antelope tag, 40 deer tag, and a cow tag...Preference Points sound like a good thing....but wouldnt most everyone start off with the same number of points? It would still take a few years for everyone to get drawn and still with points there isnt a 100% chance of drawing the tag of a lifetime.
YB

I cannot agree anymore with you robar, I two have been applying for a controlled hunt for elk in unit 36-a1 for the last 24 years also. I have been succesfull on time back in 1987. Fish and Game swears that point systems will not increase your odds at all in fact they say that your odds descrase with point. Where do they come up with the math. Figure after 24 years of bonus points you could of been in your favorite unit two or three or possibly four times. I think you hit the nail on the head Fish and Game can manipulate the outcome of the draw.

Well young buck I can see why you have no complaints Fish and Game has been good to you I would have no reason to complain either. Believe me I am another un happy hunter with 24 years of lously luck. Don't think for a minute that things don't happen behind closed doors especially with the government. After all I know I work for the government, good luck in your hunt.

With our matching 0+24 losing record, I guess you and I are the founders of the Idaho controlled hunt losers club Elkster! I thought I was the oldest, nice to have company.
I work for the gov also (23 year military) and have seen 1st hand what happens behind closed doors.
We need to voice our opinion to the Governor's office. Foo+Goo wont change on their own. Thier boss (I thought it was the tax payers) needs to direct them.
I requested an controlled hunt program audit last year thru the state auditor. It came back denied. Funny eh!
If you keep youre ears open, you will hear about all the "connected" people whoe draw something EVERY year! Makes me sick! Foo+Goo are blantintly issuing tags to thier "favorite" groups.
Maybe if we donate to the Foo+Goo new truck program......

A few years ago we had a Governor in Idaho who thought it might be fun to go hunting for a Mtn. Goat. So he put in for the hunt and guess what, he was drawn on his first try...Coincidence? we'll never know.

Kinda of like the good old boys club or a member of the click. Don't think for a moment that the draws are not manipulated in some form or fashion. As in the case of Gov Andrus I am assuming thats who you are reffering to. Happy Hunting

Sooooo, how do we fix it?
I'm not scared of being put on the black list. Hell, I got nothing to lose.
I write and call every year. Nothing has changed.
How do we fix the corrupt system?

I'm a loser here on both my deer and elk applications. This is my first year in Idaho and its pretty disheartening to learn that my chances will NEVER increase no matter how many times I apply. My previous experience was in South Dakota with a preference system. Those who tell us that a preference system will not increase our odds are feeding us a load of bull. If you apply to a unit with decent odds every year (say 40% plus chance) and the state has a preference system, you WILL draw a tag nearly every other year.

They prosecuted a couple ODFW (Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife) employees a few years back because they were lucky enough to draw Tags 6 years in a row. I'm with you Robar....

No luck for me!! I try to get the bread and butter but don't ever expect it. I'll keep doing the general thing which in Idaho is a great hunt. We have so many places that are really never touched or hunted. I love hunting high and hard in the back country for a good buck. But you never draw unless you put in!

Bigole5

How do you fix it. If you have 1st hand info that a fix is on, file a lawsuit. You can become a millionaire and several people will loose there jobs. But i think I will just continue to add an extra c-note, works every time.

from the "Heartland of Wyoming"

One way to fix the problem would be if everyone didnt apply for controlled hunts for a year.....they would loose so much money they would be forced to change.....they would probably jack the price up on the general tags but that again would drop their sales so it would make them flip.....probably would never happen but it would be cool to see it happen
YB

any one lucky enough to get the super tag i herd a guy form colorado or somewhere got the superslam.
Muley Man!

You have a great point. I have yet to draw in seven years of putting in (I know that doesn't come close to 24 years) however, when you take into consideratoin that one of my hunting buddies has drawn a deer tag or an elk tag every other year during those seven years it makes you start to question things a little. A rich dad, a special interet group, etc...I will be writting a letter to the governors office.

I was luckly and drew a deer tag for unit 39 during mid. August thur September. I've only hunted elk in this unit. Does anyone have muley info on this unit?

Go as high as possible. One of my buddies drew that tag in 1999 and we hunted all the places we had hunted during the normal October deer hunt and did not see a decent buck the whole time. I would recommend going as high as possible. There are some good places up near Atlanta. It is a long drive on a dirt road but could be well worth it.

Guys, I hate to rub salt in your wounds (not really), but I drew on a late season muley buck hunt (Nov 1 - 30), and I also drew on a top-notch bull elk hunt (Oct 1 - 30). After 12 years of getting skunked at drawing, my luck has changed in the past few years. A very welcome change!

I apply for about 40 tags a year in about 10 states. Yet Idaho is one state I skip. The reason is I don't like the draw system, expensive, especially with no bonus points. It has just seemed like a losing proposition for nonresidents. After reading some of these posts seems like all the more reason to avoid it.

Maybe USO will pay IDF&G a visit soon! :)

Sorry jkhunterid, no can tell.

You know, it's funny how many conspiracy theorists there are out there. ?I know a guy who donates money to XYZ fund and he draws every year? or ?I know a guy who's uncle works for the F&G and he draws all the time? blah blah blah.

Ya, the F&G have a personal vendetta with you. They know you personally and purposely not choose YOUR permit. The fact is, it's a random process that gets audited by a disinterested 3rd party. It's not 2 good ol? boys in a smoke filled room, going over the lists of who was naughty and who was nice. Believe it or not.

Idaho has a great system. You can (technically) draw EVERY SINGLE YEAR (unless buck or bull, then it's EVERY OTHER YEAR). Some states like CO, if you draw, your screwed for 7-10 years because you have to build up enough preference points to get in the running again. It's pure crap. The only people who want preference point systems are those who can't seem to draw. Heck, when the draw is random, you may NEVER draw. But then again, you may draw a lot. I went 12 consecutive years without drawing. But like I said, my luck has changed recently. In the past 4 years I have drawn on 2 bull hunts and 2 late season buck hunts.

Enough of the BS stories about how it's rigged or unfair. What a joke.

There has to be a reason all the other states have a draw in place. Simply put it works and its fair. Your odds will increase after a certain amount of uncessfull draws. You or no one can prove to me that it would not. Idaho fish and game has tried to change my mind. I am the 24 year no drawing very up set individual. I was born and raised in Idaho, but am a no-resident at the current time. I hope that USO does pay the state a visit its going to happen, Idaho better fix it before it happens to them. After all lets be serious were does that state get the vast majority of there revenue when it comes to hunting. I'll let you guess, mybe Idaho Fish and Game will join the ban wagon and incorperate a draw or divie out more tags, every individual that puts in for a controlled regardless if you are a res, or no-res need equal chances for the tags.

Why no can tell 7MAG? I could see if it was telling your secret spot....but telling what unit leaves everyone with just that...the unit you will be hunting....I could give a crap if everyone knew what unit I hunt...its not like everyone on here from Colorado, Arizona, Utah or any other place is going to drop what they are doing and come follow you to your hunting grounds...its not that big of a deal....is it?
YB

YoungBuck, to a certain point, you're right. The units I hunt are large. However they also have a VERY limited number of tags; and at least for elk, no general hunt (except archery). If I go posting what units I drew in, how much attention would it draw to these units? How many more people might put in on those units? As it has been well documented in this post, it's pretty tough to draw. And I typically need all the help I can to draw. The fewer people that put in on my units, the better chance I have of drawing. Sorry, that may sound a little selfish, but it's the truth. I MIGHT tell someone personally, but there is no way I'll post it on this message board for everyone to read.

7MAG- Dude, if you want to keep your area a secret than you already posted too many details about the unit that you drew in!

It wasn't too hard to narrow it down to a few units just by looking at the dates of your hunt.

You gave a little more away when you said that there was no general rifle hunt.

ZIM and Elkster123:
If you want to hunt Idaho so damn bad come on out and buy a tag. They sell non-resident tags over the counter you know. Great to hear all the complaining about Idahos system when, to my knowledge it is the only state where NONRESIDENTS can come and hunt mule deer and elk with a rifle WITHOUT DRAWING.

For your information I have bought an Idaho elk tag and Liscence for the last 30 years. I am originally from Idaho no many places in spudville that I have not been hunting, or exploring. Thank you.

IDhunters, I think most of the people complaining are residents, and all are complaining about not being able to get drawn for "special" permits. Not just the General.

Michael~All Gods creatures welcome... right next to the mashed potatoes and gravy.

I agree Michael, I am fully aware of the general tags that are available to the public and I use them each year, and I am a non resident. Some Individuals may say that we complain to much call the fish and game dirty names and such. But a different system needs to be incorperated into the way they hand out controlled hunts. I hunt every year in the state of Idaho spent lots of money each year. I cant really complain about the opportunities that I have but it sure would be nice to get a controlled hunt after 24 years. Could you imagine how many times in that 24 years that an individual could draw a permit with accumulation of bonus points.

Yes, but the sheep, goat, or moose only, plus once in a lifetime, makes draw odds much better than surrounding states for those. Bogus points really do not help for those, as most everyone gets one more per year anyway. Anyway, ID and WY have been best to me in the draws, with no points. Plus, not a worthless license like NV, OTC deer and elk hunting can be pretty good if you do your homework.

Well I have also put in for 7 years and not drawn and you know what. I'll take my luck cause it has caused me to hunt harder in the general hunts, I have done well too. I only apply for the best tags cause I want a good one if I'm gonna give up my regular hunt.So all you sob story whiners that think Idaho needs preference points stuff that idea where the sun don't shine. Look at the states that have those systems, people there hate it and constantly complain about it. I for one like applying and knowing that my chance of drawing is JUST as good as anyone else dropping their name in the hat.
