CAT I hope the hot sun was conducive to
a hard day of picking up aluminum cans along I-40 for ya today.
The hunts are a couple weeks out and I can just picture a whole garage full of cans that you are going to cash in to finance the hunts this fall.

Brotha what is your opinion of the inches at all costs
"hunts" that have taken place in the last week or so. Now I am not calling you or KTC out or grouping you with these "shooters" in any way shape or form. I just want your honest opinion.

I know that in Salt Lake it was well past 100. How are those waste laws written in Nevada?? Does it matter depending on the size of the wallet?? Does it matter what color the guides shirts are??

CAT if I had the funds to get r done with one of these tags
I would spend the dough in one second, there would be certain rules that would be in effect.

1. one guide that would be sworn to secrecy concerning what I killed if anything, where I hunted and how long I hunted. No pictures. No websites. No video. If I wish to share in my success I'll make sure that those that I choose to let know,
know.

2. I would determine exactly where every cent of the proceeds from the auction was spent.

3. For every tag I paid for, one other tag would be included to be donated to a youth hunter.

BESSY I'm like you, I've given up on the NOMADS in the Northeast
region ( probably cause there ain't none ) but I will be happy to chase the Southern NOMADS this year with a poorboy general season bow tag in hand.

I'll bite on this one Gordy. You don't know wether or not those guys wasted the meat of that bull, and neither do I, but what does that have to do with anything anyway? It's not any hotter in July than it is during the middle of August when you will be out trying to shoot your buck and/or archery elk here in Utah. Have you ever lost any meat to heat?

You boys have some good points but the sarcasm with which you present it hurts your credibility in my opinion. Maybe I'm wrong. I've been wrong before.

As for my opinion of conservation/auction tags, here is what I posted in another thread, and it applies here as well....


...I take an open minded stance on the "big money" issue. I believe there are VERY valid arguments for both sides of that debate, and I think that the goal of both sides is to improve hunting, and wildlife for everyone, but obviously with very differing opinions of how to do it. It's a debate between hunters looking for a way to improve on what we now have. Competition breeds improvement, and I think that is what will come of the debate....overall improvement. People outside the hunting world don't even know about this debate, and thus I don't believe that it hurts us in that way, as long as we can stand next to those other hunters with whom we disagree to defend our sport against those that would take it away.

Maybe I'm foolish, but I think we can, will, and do just that.

Whether you bought a statewide auction tag for 50K or had to settle for your $30 general deer tag I wish you all good luck in your upcoming hunts this season.

Preston the whole point of this post was sarcasm. The last thing I wanted was another 75 posts on weather this type of hunting is legal ethical or even moral, not my intention and I apologize if ya took it that way.

I had a very specific point in addressing BESS on this issue for a couple of reasons. First, and BESS will be the first to tell, ya I am all opportunity all the time where BESS is all about quality. Age old debate between him and I. I wanted to sarcastically get BESSY's gut feeling on this type of inch hunting. Secondly as a guage as to just how pissed he was.

Preston you mention that those that do not hunt have no idea that this debate exists. If I remember right I seem to remember pointing out to you that an antihunting group had your picture
with an awesome buck displayed proudly on their website. These groups will look for any crack that they can bust open to break the dam that is hunting. If ya think for one second that this is a hunter specific situation you are mistaken.

I will absolutelty agree that I have no idea if these guys took care of this bulls meat, I can tell ya my personal ethics and sense of responsibility would not allow me to take an animal that I thought would waste. In other words if I am 3 miles from the truck or ATV and I know the meat ain't gonna make it I don't shoot, this is something my Dad taught me at an early age. The end of July was extremely hot a heck of a lot hotter than any time that I have ever bowhunted. Of course I usually hunt around 8500-9000 feet not in the cedars in an elk unit that shares the Utah / Nevada border.

Yes he did. Its very important to not you didn't say he "hunted" the bull, which by the way it sounds, he paid someone else to hunt it, and he was simply a shooter.
