Lots of calves...

I have seen more elk calves this year than ever before. Just this morning, I saw a group of 10 elk, and 7 were calves. Four of them seemed to be together, like they didn't have mothers. Strange really. They still had spots and everything. The three adult cows all seemed to have their own calves by their side. Anybody noticed the same thing?

The mothers take turns "baby sitting" so they can have a girls night out once in a while. Don't worry, they'll be back.

I have also seen more calves this year than I ever have but most have been staying not far from the cows.
