Utah license fee increase

I dont know if the Utah legislature has passed this but I was reading the DWR proposal to raise license fees and application fees. I could swallow hard and except license fee increases but doubling the application fee! No fricking way!x( I applied for 5 species in the sportsman draw, I paid $25.00 for application fees. Next year it will cost me $50.00. I applied for Elk, Moose, Turkey, Black Bear for myself and three species for each of my two children, it cost me $50.00, next year it will be $100.00. I think I am done hunting in Utah! :-(

don't forget that you will have to buy a license for you and both kids as well to apply.I forget the amount for a small game license but I think it was along the line of $45.

Its still less than a tank of gas though... pretty cheap concidering the inflation on everything else, 400k houses, 50k trucks.

we all have a choice when it comes to the "gotta pay to play". Raising license fees? though i dont like that idea i can atleast swallow that one. Raising App. fees? Now thats a freekin joke..

Good. Now if they would just make us front the money Maybe I could get a couple sheep tags.

Ok! thats right! Why don't we just pattern everything to suit the guys with the deep pockets. Anything for the rich guy, money talks. You know, even if $100,000 didn't mean that much to me, I wouldn't use it to get a Utah conservation permit.

Hey! Nunya, why don't you just take all your money and buy a sheep tag @ the Fanaws banquet? It will probably be cheaper in the long run!

Bucks4less, I was gonna buy that sheep tag at the FNAWS banquet, then I spent it all on beer. :p
Now I'm just waiting for all the fellers who's wives won't let them spend the extra 10 bucks to drop out.

I wish $10 bucks is all it is. More like $50 for nothing.

Let's forget this CRAP, & go have another beer! :)

I know, don't talk logic, but here goes.... A limited entry bull costs the DWR about $785 to produce. A tag costs $280. That $500 difference is why you, me and everyone else will be investing in our future tag. Say it takes 15 years to draw. That will = $280 + $450 (15 x $30) = $730 for that bull. The application fees currently cost the DWR over $6. So we are paying a little more. Good. If that $5 increase will make it so you can't apply you shouldn't be trying to draw anyway. What is $5, 1.8 gallons of diesil?

The good old days, 11 years ago, when everyone had to send in the full amount to try and draw.

Also, the original proposal mentioned that Deer and Elk general tag prices would be lowered. Someone like myself would actually pay less overall when buying my Combo tag and a general tag or two.

App fees going up... just something that's bound to happen to cover costs.

Keep in mind that we will pay less in the long run if we already hunt deer and elk. Also, the requirement to buy a liscence 1st is very important because it allow for more Federal funds that are given for each liscence sold. I think that is a good thing. I know for myself it will be harder to put my kids in for everything when they get old enough but I still will.

The actual $10 application increase benefits a company in Nevada. That part I don't like.

I don't like having to buy a license to have to apply, but I think the proposed UT system is better than many others. It is still way cheaper than AZ, NV, or ID for a non-resident. Plus the UT combo license lets you fish. I bought licenses in ID and NV last year and couldn't fish. In NV I couldn't even hunt upland birds unless I bought an additional stamp.

The reduced tag prices will make it cheaper for guys that buy a couple general tags. I probably won't be putting my wife in for moose every year like I have been and I think that is okay. Just $5 up front to apply is so easy that is makes UT draw odds terrible. CO and WY don't require a license purchase, but do require the entire amount up front. WY charges a $16 dollar application fee, and CO charges $25 for a bonus point if you didn't buy a license the year before. UT is still cheaper than lots of other states, but the tide is changing in the western states applciation game. I do have concerns about hunting becoming too expensive for the average guy, but don't think we are there yet.

Instead of dropping $50 on the sportsman draw just save your money for the general draw. Or, go buy a lotto ticket instead, similar odds with a bigger payout.

"I probably won't be putting my wife in for moose every year like I have been and I think that is okay."

That right there is the reasons they did it!

How do you know it costs the DWR $6?

All I keep hearing is, only $5. People it will be more than just $5 more! It will be $5 more for every species you put in for. I don't mind paying for an application fee and paying for a proccess, but when there making money off the proccess that gripes me, and its not the DWR that gets the money.

What would be wrong with having one form, pay for one application fee for all species? Charge $15 for that!
