congrats!! bow? muzzle? rifle? which u hope for? 5b or 2?
what unit for elk?

good luck and get biggun!

vinihunt :)

Rifle for the deer hunts. I put in for 5b, 2 last rifle hunt, and 2 first rifle hunt. I am hoping for 5b. I have hunted that unit for years.....really good unit for deer if you know it well.

As for the elk, still waiting and praying. I have not seen any charges as of yet. I have a bad feeling that the elk draw is over with (since I got the deer charge this morning), but I am still holding out hope. Plus, there is always the Caldera draw - which was by check. So, who knows??!!!

Regardless, I will still be bummed if I do not draw an elk tag.

Good luck Vini.....hope you draw as well.

I find it hard to believe that the elk draw would be over with by now. To me, it would seem impossible that: (1) it took only 1 day (Friday) for the draw to take place, (2) it took more than one day for the draw to take place and NMG&F worked the weekend, and (3) I would have thought that we would have heard of more people announcing that they had gotten drawn on the elk tags than what we have heard. That is why I am still holding out hope.....maybe I am already in denial.......

Jbone, I'm with you. I seriously doubt it's over. My brother and dad got charged for javalina, but they haven't hit my card yet, and I was on the same app. Way too soon to give up hope on the other hunts. :) Congrats on the deer tag. I never have drawn a limited entry for deer. I'm due one of these days.

I got hit for deer! Rifle in NM 2B(1st & 2nd choice) or 2A(third choice).

Taxi,
Thats the first time I've drawn up there. I've guided hunters there and have seen some nice bucks but have never hunted there myself. I look forward to it.

I GOT HIT WITH MY DEER CHARGE. 1ST CHOICE WAS 2B THIRD RIFLE HUNT. NOTHING ELSE YET.

Jim, I'm hoping I have your luck this year with the draw. I have to redeem myself from last years hunt. I'm still sick for not taking the shot that I had. How did your hunt end up? Ed

Ed as you know when you left the weather took a turn for the worst. We spent the rest of the season hunting an off the beaten path sage canyon where we had seen a couple good(not great) bucks earlier in the season. We thought we had patterned their morning and evening routes. I don't know if it was the weather or what but we never did see those two bucks again. All in all we were disappointed in the hunt compared to prior years. We never did see the quality we had seen in earlier years. I checked my credit report and have no charges so I am thinking we did not get drawn this year. I will wait to see the official report on Tuesday but I am thinking it will be a long shot. Jim

just found out this morning that my card was hit for $310(deer). i can't believe my good fortune. so far we have drawn oryx(tularosa unit), elk(unit 55, 15 or 34) and now coues deer(unit 27). with the way things are going this year i may never draw a tag again.

sorry not sure how i got the frown face on there. must have been a typo. i am also a non resident.

thanks,
jason

That is some great news for you! Your going on a safari in NM. The unit 27 tag is quite a different place, but there are some big muleys and coues down there.
Congrats.
Josh

It is Sonoran desert, with some sub-tropical areas. The hills aren't that tall, but are plenty rough. If you have ever hunted coues it may not be so different than you ecpect, but it is certainly remote. You should take several GOOD spare tires. Not that you will road hunt, but the roads can be extremely unforgiving.

They still can't get it right! Ed F

Big Game Draw Results Update (updated 7/2/2004 9:00 AM)
We apologize for the technical delay regarding your Draw Results. We are currently working with the NM General Service Division to rectify this network problem. Please continue to check this web site periodically for updated information. Thank you for your patience.

Bowntr, Ed the site is up did you draw anything, Jim & I are without. No lick here. Thx, Mark

LAST EDITED ON Jul-02-04 AT 11:31AM (MST)[p]Wierd. It doesn't say whether you were successful or not. Am I missing something?

If it returns a hunt code does it mean you were drawn?

You got the tag Bluehair! If you were unsucessful it would just say "unsucessful" and not list the hunt code.

Congratulations!

My son and I drew deer for 5A. Now to start the research as we know nada about that area. Congrats to those who were also lucky.

RE: NM Tag unit 2 help

I drew for a unit 2 muzzleloader mule deer tag along with a antelope tag.
I am afraid of drawing for other states now, like Kansas and Wyoming.
I was wondering where to begin since I have all of unit 2 and how should I hunt this early season. I was thinking about bringing my beach chair and radio, pretend I am at the beach because I know it will be HOT. On a more serious note, I dont have a clue where to start, should I go high along the Jicarilla border in the national forest or in the deserty region..this will be fun.
I was willing to pay for a semi guided hunt, but I am going with two others and they dont want a guide (financial crises in Ohio if no one was aware). So now I have a feeling I will burn my brain out..
Email me at [email protected] for any great advice
