..i'm seeing some of these pictures of nice bucks already in velvet with a rack that's almost fully developed. where are these pictures coming from? i live in AZ, and i know if i went up north right now, i might see some bucks with 1/2 inch nubs, but no bigger.
what factor plays a part in early antler growth? is it location, feed, maturity, all of the above???

I believe that all of those do play a part in antler growth. I have read that rainfall plays a great part. According to the weatherman, this has been the wettest and coldest June in about 6 years in Utah. That means that there is more grass and water for the deer to access, thus creating healthier deer and bigger antlers. I too have been impressed with some of the velvet photos that have been posted, and maybe the rain is one factor. Hopefully the rain and cooler temperatures will continue for a while. Maybe we'll get a few real monsters running around for us to chase this fall.

I'm impressed with the antler growth of the deer in the unit I hunt here in Utah. The antler growth has been outstanding compared to other years. I'm seeing more 3x4 and 4x4 bucks with more antler mass and spread. I think the cooler May and June weather has helped.
