Gentlemen,
It appears that the outfitter that I had hired to point us in the right direction on a semi-guided elk hunt in a few weeks has run into some legal troubles. My bet is that he won't be guiding anyone this fall. It's pretty disappointing, really. We had planned to hunt Sept 2-9th (ish). I won't make any harsh judgements until I know the facts, but it doesn't look good. The lost money on deposits is the least of my worries right now.
I have never hunted elk in Colorado and neither has my hunting partner. We've both got our tags for general archery already. What I'm looking for now is maybe a hand at getting us headed in the right direction or maybe a guide who can get us started. We had planned on hunting the south west corner of the state, but I'm willing to try anywhere. We don't have a lot of money but we're willing to hike and do some hard work to kill branch antlered bulls. I'm not looking for a monster, but I'd love to have a bull of any kind hit the dirt in September. I'm taking this as a hitch in the road and I'm going to give it my best or die trying.
Any tips on outfitters or general areas where we could have a chance at being successful would be very much appreciated.
