Wasatch Bulls

I'm just curious what kind of quality bulls people are seeing on the Wasatch LE unit this year. I figure with the bow hunt starting up people will be out and about more now. Are you seeing as many bulls as in the past and is the quality holding up?

So far so good. I have seen some high end bulls, a lot more in the 250-330 range. Still lots of elk and hopefully I can get an arrow in one! Have a great hunt!

Chad

Drawing a tag like this, you should change your name to "lucky", isnstead of "unlucky"!

I personally haven't been up yet looking around, but some pretty good rumors floating around.
The wasatch as you already know i'm sure, is an awesome unit with some tremendous bulls in it and lot's of them!
Getting a 350" bull is not too much too ask for on this unit, and there is a lot bigger ones than that. In the past four years, i know of two bulls that have "netted book" out of the wasatch and i'm sure that wasn't the only two, not too mention if anyone has chosen to keep theirs on the low down.

Good luck on your hunt, and you can PM me if you want any suggestions, i know this unit pretty well.

Holy Hell, Chad I sure hope your area isn't being pounded like the other side.....

I KID YOU NOT, it's worse than rifle season....

Very disappointed Pred!

I have an elk tag for the wasatch and have not had a chance to do much scouting. Any ideas would be greatly apopreciated. I have killed several elk over 380 and would like to hold out. Any ideas. Thanks

Suggestion 1: Don't hold out unless you have a lot of salt and pepper for your tag soup. All kidding aside, ktc has the right mark to shoot for. If you're holding out for somthing bigger than you already have, and you haven't done any scouting, DON"T HOLD OUT! I would shoot the first 350 bull I saw unless I had scouted and found some bigger bulls. I know of 4 bulls, of which I have personally seen 3 of them, that score between 380 and 400+. 3 of those bulls have somebody sitting on them as I type this. The other one is one I have been watching and so far, nobody knows about him. I practically tripped over this bull. Silent Stalker knows the area he's in but that should be it. I FOUND HIM CHAD!!

Suggestion 2: Better start doing some scouting. Those bulls will be cowing up pretty soon and are moving into the breeding areas. Now is the time to find them. The bull I have been watching has gone 6 miles from where I first saw him.

Suggestion 3: Hunt away from the high pressured areas. If you have heard of a good bull in an area, you can bet that everybody else has too. I avoid those areas like the plague.

Good luck! I really hope you do well. When you do score, post some pictures here for us to drool over.

It's always an adventure!!!

I have been out quite a bit and have found some good bulls. I haven't got too serious yet because I knew they would get bumped around when the bow hunt started. My tag is a Muzzleloader tag so I'm hoping a few decent bulls get away from the rifle and archery hunters. Just curious what others are seeing. I would gladly accept anyones suggestions or information but I understand that isn't likely here. I enjoy looking on my own and will find something to get me excited i'm sure. Good luck to everyone trying to fill a tag!!!

I'm happy to hear some of you are seeing some great bulls. I've had a tough year turning up much of anything, and with the fiasco of this past weekend I hope things are settled down in the area I hunt before the season ends. I think Predator must of experienced the same thing.

Kind of makes it interesting when there's guys sitting on bulls 24/7. Hopefully the rut will shuffle things up a bit......

If I had an archery tag I don't know that I'd be too picky. Lots of great hunters eat tag soup on the Wasatch archery hunt every year.

Good luck. I'll be chasing spikers and cows around East of Heber with everyone else.

I have been seeing some very nice bulls the last 4 weeks that I have been out looking around. I took my brother in law out for the deer archery last weekend and saw nine large bulls . One huge 8x6 that was very cool and unique. The rest were very nice too between 300 and 350. I didn't draw a tag but it's going to be fun caling some in to shoot with the camera.

I have been scouting for my dad and one friend that has the tag, tons of bulls lots in the 275 to 325 range a few closer to 350+ but not a lot of monsters yet! God luck to all Prism stop by and say hi we will be up there all week!

Paul,
I bet I know just what your talking about. I had the same experience up there. Did those boys tell you that they named "THEIR" bull? Exactly why I avoid areas like that when it comes right down to hunting. Sprinting into a canyon just to shoot the bull out from under somebody is not my idea of a good hunt. Give me a call and tell me where you are camped. I am heading that direction this week. I will bring the weenies if you supply the buns. mmmmm Maybe I better rephrase that.

lonebull,

"Several over 380"? That is a pretty impressive resume.

AWLB,

Yes, rephrase the weenies and buns. That is nasty buddy!

SS,

Good luck!

havent posted in a long time but i thought i would share a little video clip of a nice bull.I have been on the unit since mid June and seen and flimed alot of bulls.I have filmed this bull numerous times and i am pretty sure i am the only one to video him but if anybody else has some video of him i love to see it.I dont have a tag but i will be watching the area to see if anybody harvest this bull or any of the other bulls i have flimed. If anybody sees this bull gets harvested and i am not aware of it i would like them to contact me if possible.

That is a great bull - maybe it's just the velvet making him look bigger but I'd have guessed him bigger than 380.

Thanks for sharing.

There's that 380 number again. Anybody seen or killed anything below a 380 lately. I will gladly take a nice 350 that any of you boys want to pass on!

LAST EDITED ON Aug-21-07 AT 10:24PM (MST)[p]Excellent bull!!
And i don't care what anyone else says, this bull is all the makings of a 380" bull!
Maybe johnny wants too start out low and work his way up to a bull like this. That's fine by me, i'll be happy to have this one and get him out of the way!!

"Excellent bull!! And i don't care what anyone else says, this bull is all the makings of a 380" bull!"

No doubt about it.

The only thing, and I mean the only thing that hurts that bull is his main beam length. Everything else is great. He definately makes a great case for a 380 class bull. I would drop the hammer on him for sure.

It's always an adventure!!!

I wasn't referring to the video, dang nice bull. Guess I will worry about 350 vs 380 when I draw a UT tag some day. Again, beauty of a bull, was referring to a bigger picture view in my sarcasm. Good luck on your hunts and look forward to all the 380 bulls to come. 380 or bust boys, good luck to you.

JOHNNY

Pred,

Most of the areas I have found good bulls in are getting hammered by deer/spike hunters. I believe I will do just fine in my "other" spot! It is a waiting game now!

Saxon,

Great bull, I am sending you an e-mail.

AWLB, I know you found that bull! Thanks! J/K, I am leaving in about 4 hours to my other area. The bulls are starting to move in so....

Good luck to you all! Be back in Sept!

Chad

LAST EDITED ON Aug-22-07 AT 08:52AM (MST)[p]Saxon,

I will be more than happy to use my tag to harvest that bull if you would like to seem him up close and personal.

As far as what I've seen this year. Lot's of bulls in the 300 -- 320 range. A few 320 - 350 and and very few that I would consider better than 350.

Someone summon Mooise ?

I drew the Wasach Unit but for Rifle. One point and all. Rumor has it I was Lucky, I figured it must be a gimme tag if I can do that :) . Went out one morning scouting. Since I live in Idaho I figure I should do some. Drove over, picked a random spot that looked good from the topo, Walked Less than 100 yards from a road, set up a scope and..... Saw 24 bulls in the first 1.5 hours of the Morning. 2 Just over 350. 7 good 6 points and one was a Spike. Even saw 2 cows, if anything, Utah needs more cows !!! That poor Spike fella is going to get chased more then the Big boys come General season, Heck, maybe even in the LE draw !! May the force be with him !!! :)

Utah hunters are Puss's. Everyone camping on a bull ? Please..... They own the bull ? Please again... Hope someone doesn't mind when the bull they are sitting on gets the Hammer dropped on them from someone that wasn't babysitting it. Better be quick on the Draw Fellas, you down't own a bull just because you and 12 of your Buddies have hours of footage of it over the last 3 months. Huge Bulls are a Dime a Dozen...*roll eyes*

Anyway, I was gonig to go back to scout again but figure since everyone else is sitting on the 380 bulls, I'll take one of the little 350" 6x8 I saw. Nothing Huge, I'm not gready like the rest of ya.

I saw a couple of you guys scouting.... Driving the 4-wheelers making noise, driving past some bulls and pointing when you saw a Couple Raghorns.

Good luck Pansies !!!!

Never fails. Bobcat shut up the rookie. I was hoping he'd come back and ask how to post so we could see some dead 380" bulls. Myself, never took a 380" bull or even a 350" bull. Doesn't mean I'm not gonna keep trying though.
