What is a quick and easy in the field way to judge a bull as far as score? Do you have ways to judge size for tine length by comparing to head size. Like a mule deer you have the ear width for a starter on width and go from there anything like that for elk? Thanks nwhunter

I am not sure which Boone and Crocket book it is, but I found a great guide for fielding scoring bull elk that was patterned after a system used by Indian guides in Arizona. It really made sence and was not that hard to learn. Dont know if this helps but like I said it is in a Boone and Crocket book and I will see if I can find it again.

Mike Eastman's book "Elk Hunting The West", gives a good basic way of field judging elk, similar to deer, called "rack-bracketing". It seems to work pretty well, the only thing bad about it is that it makes you see how wrong you've been about the "350" class bulls you've seen!!

Hope this helps.
