Howdy Everybody,

Drew a Ruby mountain tag this year. I am a avid backpack hunter and will be backpacking into the Ruby's for over a week. I have never hunted this unit and was wondering if anybody knows any good trailheads to start out of. I will be doing a good scouting trip the end of August and thought maybe some of you have had good experiences with certain trial heads.

I hear alot of the unit is private? I have ordered topo maps and should recieve them in a few weeks.

Not looking for any specifics, just trying to get pointed in the right direction for my back pack hunt.

Thank you

Hoss

TAKE A SHOCK POLE!(you'll need it to keep all other hunters around you at bay!lol). Lots of hunters and a jr either sex deer hunt (which is great for the kids, just not when I WASTED 6PT on a mistake!) Never hunt it again!
You should get a lot of help from other here real soon! HANG IN THERE!

I spend the entire season in those mountains guiding. It's BIG tough steep country. The mountains are completly landlocked. There are seven or eight public access points that will put you at the bottom of the mountain and a couple that will take you up high, then it's a long way up to where the deer are. Check out the Dry Creek trail head in Secret Pass in the East Humbolts or Angel Lake. Both of those trailheads start out higher then the others. You won't see as many hunters in the East Humblots. I'd suggest you get in REAL good shape if your going to backpack in there
Good luck
Wes

I just changed my profile with my new e-mail address. Sorry about that. If you don't mind firing another e-mail off to me that would greatly apprecited.

Thanks again Blueoak,
