Oregon hunters

Condon is basically rolling wheat feilds, I've never heard of it being a trophy caliber area, Its so open around there I don't think they have that great of a chance to grow up to big without being noticed. If someone told me we were going to condon to hunt deer I would kinda be like hoo-hum..... I spent about 2 months there one summer building the fence around there water treatment facilites, it was'nt uncommon to see deer in early morning or late evening hrs out in the wheat feilds but nothing around there ever left a lasting impression on me to even apply for a tag around there.

Drum,
Everything around Condon is private property. If you have access there are some big bucks in that country - I've seen some in the back of trucks that looked good. Problem is that unless you know someone access is a real issue, plus there are better areas in Oregon for big bucks. As far as top end, the one buck I know that came from this area that I actually looked over and looked really good was around 185' B&C with pretty good mass and a couple of cheaters. But again, I suppose there might be bigger if you have the access.
Thanks

I hunted near Condon two years ago (I'm in MI) on a large ranch. It is mostly private, lots of hunters. It was extremely dry and hot that year but we had a shot at a 30" + deer(my buddy missed) not lots of mass but plenty of nice deer. Blue tongue and cats were a real problem if' I remeber right- maybe better now?
Good Luck

It is a very large private ranch. The landowner buys all of his seed from a friend and he mentioned that he might allow one or two guys to go hunt this year. From what I understand the ranch is very large and has had limited hunting in the past.

I appreciate all of the responses,

Drummond

I just left that area as one of the wardens. The answer to your question really depends on which ranch you have access to. Some of the ranches are hunted so hard that a forkie is a keeper. Other ranches may be lightly hunted and / or have a little better habitat thus may have some good ones hanging around.

For the most part though, most of the area is indeed heavy rolling wheatfields. Some of the better ones are disected by small canyons and gorges where the deer can sneak off to to bed.

You probably wont know what you got until you get there. The weather in Condon during deer season is usually hot and dry, making the deer less cooperative. Condon has one motel, a burger shop, and a little deli/gift shop type of place, and a few other things scattered in between.
