I have a brother who is severily handicapped and is going to go on the first hunt of his life. He has watched my brothers and I slip out the door for years to take off on our hunts. He has always wanted to be involved, but the areas we go just aren't accessible for him. I am wondering if anyone has any good areas that they would like to share with us. He cannot walk, so if you know of an area with alot of road hunting that would be the best. I have a few areas that I hunt, but it requires alot of walking in some of the most nasty terrain you can imagine. I have been up scouting in some areas with lots of roads over the past few weeks and haven't seen alot. His hunt starts on September 15, so the elk should be rutting pretty hard by then. I hope that we can cow call something in close to a road. The tag is a general hunt, but he does get to hunt a few weeks before the general hunt. If you could PM me that would be great.

We can help next year.

We should have an opening for a disable hunter. Take a look at our web site, and then let's talk and see what we can come up with.

Anything with good access and descent bulls will probablly be on draw. New Mexico offers diability permits (nonresident?), which look like great hunts, great dates, and with descent odds. You and your brothers would not be able to hunt though.

and you are in what State...?

A coal mine sw of Steamboat Springs Colorado used to take disabled hunters on hunts on reclaimed lands. Many shoot from the vehicle. I don't know if they still do it but it might be worth checking into for another year.

We are in Utah. I might have to check that out. Thank you guys for all your help.

I checked out the site and sent you an email. If we can work something out, that would be great. Thanks for your help.

My disabled cousin hunts the NE region in Utah every year...elk and deer...from the pickup. He killed a nice 6 point bull elk up near Flaming Gorge a few years ago and gets a deer every year, too. He just finds a road and goes down it...sits point for a while..etc.. He just kinda wanders around and lucks into game every time. (He's paralyzed from the chest down, but his truck is outfitted w/a lift and hand controls so he is pretty much self contained. He does have to have someone along to clean out whatever he kills and load it though.)

Good luck to your brother on his hunt. That's great that he wants to go. Have fun, boys.

I will connect with you after the hunt this year if that is ok. I have many irons in the fire now.
I will give you a ring and we can chat about it.

perfect, I know how busy this time of the year is. I will be hunting 3 out of the 4 weeks.

Jen,

Thanks a bunch. I will be doing some scouting for my bro this week while on my bow hunt. That was the area that we were planning on taking him, but I don't know any areas over there with alot of roads and elk. Can you give me a general area to try in a p.m.?

Thanks
