Monticello, Utah

I just got back from a mini vacation down in Southern Utah. Drove through Monticello (came from Moab), and east to Colorado. I was very impressed by the number (and size) of the deer we saw around here.
I have never hunted this area, but looks like something I may be interested in doing, in the future.
I really liked the area out east of town, although I am sure the fields were private.
Anybody give me some insight for this area?? I would really like information on access availability, tresspass fees, success (good or bad), and size of the deer.
Thanks, in advance for your responces.

It's a combat zone unless you hunt private land or get drawn for the elk ridge area.

300win. is right. If you rifle hunt over in Monticello and the surrounding area, say hi to all of the other hunters and all of the guys, kids etc. on four-wheelers. It's a rat race during the general deer season. If you're bowhunting you may have more luck. Oh yeah, the deer seem to leave the public lands right before the gun hunt opens. Great country, though.
