I got back yesterday from a 10 day hunt in unit 9 and 10 AZ. I did not see the bull I was looking for, many of bulls in these two units have short tops but huge on the first three points. Three bulls I watched would run around 380 - 390 or so, one with the first three points longer than 20" with great mass, sorry no pictures. I'll keep hunting until I find the right one. Good luck to everyone!

No broken bulls, plenty of 280-320 class bulls running around. They were rutting in 9, not in 10 when I left that unit a week ago.

Clark, that's awesome your seeing big bulls. This week will be the time to get up there again if possible. The rut will really get going strong by the end of this week. Good luck!!

clark,

wow passing on a bull thats 390 something you must play poker.are you hutning alone or with help? if the bulls are rutting in 9 you should be able to turn up mr magical 400" even with weak tops.would love to see some pics of 380 bulls with "weak" tops.good luck on your search

I hunted with good friend Tim Pender from Seligman. The fun for me is in the hunt, I want to enjoy it as long as I can until I find one that you just say WOW!

I took a bull in Utah in 2003 that went 393. I'll hold out for
one that will better this bull.

One guy I watched would have roughly 22" 1st, 2nd's and 24" thirds, 4 points were about 20" then the 5ths dropped to 7 inches. Great mass on bottom thirds, thin on top. Sorry I don't have any pictures of this bull.

Good Luck!

clark,
ahh i did not know you were holding the "pender" ace card..so to speak.come on though you cant tell us about huge bulls then no pics?? 380"class bulls are very worthy of pictures.are the bulls rutting in 10?my brother has an archery tag.7" 5ths ouch.and some people on mm say that drought in the critical feed time does not matter....i beg to differ.

good luck on finding "the one"

The bulls were not rutting in 10 when I was hunting in that unit. The bulls in 9 started rutting around Monday last week. Many of the bulls had big fronts, weak tops. If the bull had good tops it seem to have a thin rack. This is only from my point of view. Tons of bulls in the 280-320 class.

clark,
thanks.when are you going back out?i was in unit 8 tonight and they were bugling a little where i was.

Just weekend trips from this point forward. I may get out for a week around Xmas. Will most the bigger bulls be broken up?

clark,
if you are looking to kill a whopper i would not wait to long as most of the bigger bulls will be pretty busted up after oct.it really happens in az on years like this when tops are not developed like normal.lots of bulls with their main beams busted off.
thats why i made the remark about the 390 bull.on a year like this in az i would say "bust him"

god luck
