i've read both the non-resident booklet and the Elk regulations they send you with your tag. I can't seem to find what I need to make sure to take if I plan to bone out an animal in the field (in wyoming)

any advice on where to find the specific regulations?
i plan to hunt off the road a ways, I happen to have cow elk, buck deer, and a antelope tag. What do I need to make sure I pack out?

thanks in advance!

All edible meat including tenderloin, less the innards.
Came the closest to a fish and game citation I ever came last year leaving the Greys River area. They actually have the weight of a boned out animal down to a very close poundage. Hope this helps.

thanks for the reply.

so lets say on a cow elk besides all the edible meat, would I have to leave evidence of sex? (attached?)

Yes you need to leave an utter on both hind quarters even if you bone it out.
Chech you antelope tage it should be an any antelope not buck only.

I've got the 2007 Antelope and the 2007 elk regs in front of me and both have a section in bold print, EVIDENCE TO IDENTIFT SEX< SPECICES AND ect

Under General Regulations:

?Edible portion of big game animal? means the meat of the front quarters as far down as the knees, the hindquarters as far down as the hocks, and the meat along the backbone between the neck and hindquarters, excluding meat on the ribs and neck.

I have boning all elk for the last several years and I have asked this question to Game wardens and at the district office in Green River. I have gotten different answers but the most common seems to be if you leave proof of sex attatched to an edible portion (roast size) is what I was told, you should be ok. I suppose every warden has his own view though. I usually carry a 1 gallon zip lock to put that piece in so hair doesn't get all over all the other meat. On an either sex tag or any elk tag I was told you don't need to leave proof of sex on the meat. I suppose this is up to the mood of the warden who check you as well. I had one make me unpack a horse in the middle of the pack out to check proof of sex.

haha. its for unit 120 (cow tag), 34 buck tag, 73 any antelope tag.

had a point for each, and between 3 of us, we got tags for each species. odds werent 100% but weren't too bad either.

grandpa is 80, so figured why not, i didn't mind cashing in some points. stay out there a couple weeks and make the most of it while he can still hunt with us. one of the areas i found that had decent odds of drawing, and all 3 seasons overlapped. we'll see in a few weeks if it was a good move! at this point as long as we have a good time, its well worth the cash.
