Southeast Idaho Pressure

This will be my first year hunting SE Idaho and I wondered what kind of pressure from others hunters I can expect during the general hunt. Will it be like the general hunts in Utah? I know that a lot of people like to hunt the WY border on the SE hunt, but after a little scouting closer to home I think I will hit the Bear River range, any ideas what pressure will be like there? I like the new ATV rules, but I am not counting on too much compliance or enforcement. Just wondering what kind of army I will be up against. Thanks for any info.

You will be up against some fairly heavy pressure for the 1st part of the hunt and on weekends, during the weekdays alot of the pressure usually lets up. I don't know how the off road restriction affected the bear river range, but in my neck of the woods the warden took it serious and gave a whole lot of tickets. There weren't many 4 wheelers around that I saw so I think that will help. Good luck on the hunt

hopefully the new atv restictions will stop all the atv abuse, there are still some spots that produce good bucks, you just have to work the places that most hunters wont hunt cause it is to much work.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-06-04 AT 05:44PM (MST)[p]I wouldn't count on the ATV restrictions making much difference, at least this first year. Last season the area was under ATV restrictions during the MZ hunt and there were still ATVs everywhere, many of which were off of roads "that could support a full size vehicle". There were a few tickets & warnings given out near Paris on the first day, but I never saw any enforcement after that. Every morning ATV & snowmobile tracks were made further and further off the main roads as people followed tracks made the previous day. By the end of the hunt, the only thing that stopped ATVS was snow depth, not the new ATV restrictions.
I support the new regs, hopefully it will lead to better hunting in the future, but I think it will take a few years to change the mindset of hunters in that area who are used to driving ATVs anywhere they wanted.
I also worry what will happen to Unit 76 as swarms of hunters from UT/CA/ID move into the area with ATVs. I think the restrictions should be throughout the entire SE area. Unit 76 will look like an ATV Jamboree this fall I predict.
