I forgot to tell you that my girlfriends mom drew this elk tag at the Western Hunting Expo in Salt Lake City.

Greatjob! I noticed that this is one of the few pictures of someone actually tagging their bull at least for pics. Howmany guys leave the tag off during pics and removal of the animal from the immediate site of kill until they get to the truck? Anyways, a nice legal, fair chase hunt by the looks of it. Thanks for sharing.

isn't it still illegal to take the orange off? picture or not, there is a rifle hunt in progress and orange should stay on at all times, even when in camp. just rules, but who listens to those anyway??

Once the hunter tags out, he/she is no longer a 'hunter', therefore since those just 'camping' or helping are not required to wear orange, why would the successful hunter? And being required to wear orange in camp, are they required to wear orange underbritches in the sleeping bags as well? When exactly is the successful hunter 'allowed' to take the orange off? Do they have to wear orange back at home if the hunt is still going on? Just curious.
I spent the last month on this very unit, and I never even touched anything orange, little lone wore any, yet I made it out alive and ticket free, even while running into two CO's during the hunts.

just talked to the DWR, and hunter orange is NOT required for individuals "tagging" along. after the animal is expired, the hunter is no longer required to wear hunter orange. any one with a legal tag is required to wear orange even if they are not in posession of a weapon.

My hunters are always legal, ALWAYS. Even though I think being required to wear orange on a LE hunt makes as much sense as some of your posts, which is complete nonsensical jiberish. Hell, I think being required to wear orange on the general rifle hunt is silly, I say if one wants to be out there w/o orange, go for it. I own no orange clothing, yet I am out in the hills every year, completely legal since I am not carrying a rifle. How is this safe for me but not the hunter? Like I said, nonsensical jiberish.

I just want to thank the the Sportsman's Expo for giving me the opportunity to go on this hunt. I had the best time. It gave my family a chance to go scouting and looking for elk all summer, and be together for this hunt. My son and husband were jealous because they have been putting in for so many years and have yet to draw, but were very supportive and excited for me when I got this elk. I have been putting in for deer and couldn't put in for elk. The Expo has given hunters the chance to put in for hunts that otherwise they might not be able to for many years or until they are lucky enough to draw.
It was a lot of work and we put in a lot of time on the Dutton
I didn't know that taking off the orange for pictures would turn out to be such a big issue.
This was my first Elk and we were excited to show it off. Next time I will think twice before I take and more pictures and share them with others. ( someone did notice that I did tag it before the pictures so we weren't purposely do things illegal it was just a poor judgement call on my part.)
