OK guys, this is my first year to hunt spike only. What can I expect once I get out to the mountains with regard to numbers and competition with other hunters? I plan on sticking to the Wasatch area, maybe a venture south to Skyline hwy if nothing going well. I plan on hunting opening day - gotta enjoy a circus at least once per year, and then have 4 solid days beginning on Wed (10/10). I basically have 3 areas I am going to concentrate on, but if anyone has any better info from the LE hunt I am willing to listen.

please dont come down too skyline drive with me and the rest of the 500 other hunters the less the merreyer

Lots of people. The spike elk hunt is just like the old general deer hunt. It's a fun camping trip.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-26-07 AT 09:28PM (MST)[p]If you can "push" through the opening weekend without too many confrontations and stray bullets wizzing by your head, you should be able to enjoy the rest of your hunt. I went on a late elk hunt in november and saw over 700 head of elk in 11 days. Only 4 were spikes. Nd this was on a spike only unit. Good luck.
