Skyline Highway question

OK, you guys with knowledge of hunting along the Skyline Highway I could use your input here. Today I was able to secure permission to hunt on some private property that bumps up against the nation forest very close to Skyline. This is my first year hunting in Utah and I was wondering what method you would hunt this. Should I sit near the bottom of the short canyons, should I walk them, should I sit on teh point of a ridge, or should I walk those?

Any help is appreciated as I have just received this permission and I have not scouted any of it. It is in the Mt Pleasant area if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance

LAST EDITED ON Sep-28-07 AT 08:42PM (MST)[p]Do you mean Skyline Drive? As in the dirt road?

I would find a canyon that empties toward Skyline, cuz everybody and their dog will be walking or road-hunting. I'd sit and wait for them to push the deer to you!

Yep - Skyline Drive. That's how unfamiliar I am abount hunting in Utah :D Thanks for the info.

Landshark was right, it will BE a highway come the hunt!

I have hunted most of my life down in that area...mostly on private land, but I have hunted most of the different canyons that feed off both sides of Skyline Drive.

If I were you, I would sit where the canyons funnel from the Forset Service land on to your private land. With as much pressure as there will be on the public land, as soon as the shooting starts and/or the hunters start stomping around, the deer will funnel out of the public land to the private land, where there is usually less pressure and where they can find a safe place to hide.

Just my 2 cents, but I hope it helps. Good luck.

Shoot me a private message or an email and I might be able to give you more specifics, depending on exactly where it is you are going to be hunting.
