I am headed for Wyoming in Oct. Will be hunting south of Lander Wy. Have never been to Wyoming so any help will be greatly appriciated. Thank you

Be prepared for very steep and rugged terrain. You will be hunting probably in the 8000 to 11,000 foot elevation so if your not use to that elevation, my suggestion would be to buy some type of altitude sickness pills. It might be good to arrive a few days early to adjust to the thin air and altitude and that would also give you time to scout. You may also want to check your map. You are west of Lander and not South if you are in Units 94-96. There is alot of wilderness in the area and watch out for grizzly's, as they have been known to come that far south from yellowstone. My advice would to get a can a pepper spray for everyone in your hunting party. Keep your food at least 100 yards from camp, preferably stashed in a tree, ecspecially if you are sleeping in a tent. I don't know if you will be hunting in wilderness, but keep in mind all non residents must be accomapnied by a license guide or a resident of Wyoming in any wilderness area, and if you are bringing horses, make sure the hay you bring in non-toxic, weed free as I know the game and fish is cracking down on that.

I've hunted the Pinedale area, close to your units, and there are many good bulls in the area. My advice would be to keep to the ridges and get yourself a good pair of binoculars to scope distant ridges, valleys and hillsides.

Good luck hunting and hope you enjoy the woderful state of Wyoming!

Bat57,

I just realized you are deer hunting not elk hunting, so disregard the last post. Good luck anyways!
