A group of people have been telling everyone that they sent this bull over the hill to us opening day. Here are a few pictures from the night before opener taken by Bret with his camera and spotting scope. this picture is from 400 yards so it is a little fuzzy. As you can see in the pictures it is without a doubt the very same bull, and it was killed the next day 50 yards from where this picture was taken. i hope this answers your questions, and silences the bullsh#tters

i don't know anything about what you saying re: 'people sent him over the hill to you'...but, that is one great bull. congratulations to all involved in harvesting him....great 'before and after' pics....thanks for sharing them..

a hunter was claiming that he had sent this bull over the hill to us opening day and that we hadn't ever seen this bull before and just lucked into it. My brother-in-law Bret Henrie watched this bull almost the entire day before season and shot these great pictures of it. And we went back in the next morning at daylight and found him in the very same place at first light. The hunt was over 15 minutes into the season but it was all worth it.

Congrats on an awesome bull. Anytime a great bull is killed, it seems someone wants to say it was killed by either dumb luck or by 'surrounding' it with a posse. It gets old for sure. Nice before and after pix, that bull has a ton of character.

Shane- I will also vouch for your BIL, Brett. He's a darn good hunter and I don't believe the bullcrap stories for a second. He killed a huge bull himself last year (scored 380 something) and helped a few other people find and kill some big bulls, including the bull in the "381 Utah Bull" thread. I know Brett didn't just "luck into" anything. He hunts hard, scouts and knows where to find big bulls. When I draw out someday for elk, he's the 1st guy I'll be calling.

Great Bull for sure!! But in the end it doesn't really matter who scouted and who lucked into it, the guy that pulls the trigger gets to take it home. The animal belongs to no man until he wraps his tag on it. Again, thats a hell of a Bull!!!

thanks, Bret deserves alot of credit for this bull. We split up and we all scouted hard for several days before we found this great bull. Bret watched him almost all day untill dark and hicked back to camp in the dark. we left camp the next morning at 4:00 and hicked up the backside of a huge steep mountain to be at the right spot at daylight. Out of all the bulls we scouted this one had the most character and unique looking rack.

Thanks Jenn, i posted the reply on the wrong message. look one space up.

That is one awesome bull. I love the devil tines and split beam. Don't let the jealous bastages out there get to you.

There is always someone who wants part of your trophy:
-I have it on film
-I know where it watered
-I scared it over to you...

Who cares, you got it. Very very nice bull and great job.

Those are some great photos through your spotting scope, what is your setup?

Camera?
Spotting Scope?
Adapter?
Mounting mechanism?

Great bull!!!

the photos were shot holding a small digital camera up to a spotting scope that was on a tripod. Just look at the screen on the camera to see if the view is clear and snap the picture. This one was a small olympus camera with a nikon spotting scope. no adapter was used.

outfitter....BFD if you never saw it before it was killed. There are many many huge animals killed by people who lucked into them and others who had them pushed to them. Who freaking cares as long as one hunter does not literally force his way in while another is hunting it they are available for everyone. Just smile laugh and say "Thanks for the help I did not want to have to walk over that hill, and man he will look awesome on my wall".

Outfitter,

Of all the beautiful bulls posted this year, yours is my personal favorite. Much congrats.

Great character on this bull. Wow, What cool devil horns or what ever they call them. That's a cool lookin big boy.

Thanks for posting.

Incredible bull and well deserved. It must have been a long night prior to bagging him. Nice to know you were the ones that were on the bull first light. Usually Murphy's Law prevails in those situations and the guy claiming he chased it over the hill bags the bull. Again nice going guys and archive this hunt. I will be helping a good friend out in November in unit 10,AZ . Hope we can enjoy similar success.

Whoever drops the hammer is the person that puts the tag on it.
Congrats and very nice bull.

I killed a 6x6 several yrs ago where I got him on opening morning. On top of the mountain. Some guys where hunting on the other side and seen this bull 3-4 days in a row and where waiting for him and never showed. They tried to ambush him for 4 days of the season till my friend ran into them and talked to them and they told him the story and he told them I killed him opening morning. I was like 3/4 mile from where they where.

did you know he had all the extras before you walked up on him dead??

Bret studied him pretty hard the day before. We also looked at the pictures and zoomed them in, so we had a real good idea what he looked like.

That thing is a freaking toad! Love the mass and the extras on the bases. Way too cool. Too many people would love to have that thing. The truth is, that raghorn that you saw and hoped wouldn't spook this bull before you made your stalk was probably what they "pushed over the hill" to you.

It is just sour grapes. I remember one home run I hit in Pony League. I was the only 13 yr. old to hit one out that year and many of the 14 yr. olds hadn't done it either. A few days later I was being congratulated by this one kids uncle. Uncle tells me I did a great job but the kid says, "Yeah the wind got a hold of that one" and then uncle rebukes his nephew, "Yeah but he hit it hard enough to get it up in to the wind and it went over the fence anyway didn't it!". Funny, nobody questioned me the next year when I hit a bunch of them.

Good job on a nice bull. As Pro told me once "It's good to be (you)." ;-)

I can not beleive that you threatened that poor little kid that you guy's were going to leave the elk cage with this grain fed bull.. Who photo shopped the tree's in and the fence out? They done a good job. By the way there wasn't a spare tire involved with this one was there? I know my brother had to of spooked this bull off of diamond to you guys. I have had this bull emailed to me about 7 times with claims of my brother-in-law, father-in-law, my sisters uncle, my buddy or some other B.S. killed this bull! To bad I already Knew the X-utard that shot it no matter what people claim it's a dang nice bull I just can't believe a bullsh#tter like you lucked out and killed him! Thank god for Bret other than that you would have probably shot a spike or a cow!! Just kidding congrat's on one helluva bull!

I hate to be the one to ask, what unit we saw a similar bull
although I dont think it was that bull on San Juan, and I
hate to ask but what did it score???
