I have been out bowhunting the last 9 days and we saw some whoppers. There were five in the area we were hunting that were really big. I only had tomorrow left to hunt so when this guy gave me the opportunity to take a shot this morning I took it. He was not one of the 5 big ones we were after but he is still my largest archery buck. I took him at 35 yards with my new Bowtech Liberty. As a 5X4 he rough grossed 188 and change non-typical which surprised me as I did not think he would score that high. His typical frame rough grossed 183. I am still going out tomorrow with my buddy but will only be armed with the camera this time.

That's a great deer!
Can't wait to see pics of the "Big" ones.

How much did that bugger weigh? He looks pregnant!

Nicely done.
One drawback though, there will be two less sheds for you to find next spring. : )

Congrats!
The smiles in the pictures tell it all!
Very nice buck, especially in that terrain and with a bow nontheless!

Cam:

What a shame that the buck, your own personal best with a bow, wasn't one of the "big ones" (we're all down here droolin' with jealousy)! Congrats on a great deer!!!! Sounds like you might keep that Bowtech, huh?

P.S. Thumbs up on the nice pics!

Thanks for the congrats. I don't remember getting a PM from you at realtree. I go by a different name there(CLB) so if you sent it to Saskman there you will have sent it to someone else. The Saskman on Realtree is a guy from up at Meadow Lake, Sask..

Here is the story of hunt. It might be kind of long.

We had been seeing some really big deer in one coulee. One was a big 4x4 that would gross 195-200 inches, there was also a 4x5 that would gross in that mid 190 range as well. There was also a big non-typical in that coulee. He had a smaller typical frame but had numerous other small stickers all over his rack. We had a couple of really good close looks at him but still never got an accurate count on all of the points. I an guessing he would be grossing in that 200 range as well. The second day we were out we had watched the non-typical bed down in some tall choke cherry bushes on the side of the coulee. The way the wind was we would be able to get in quite close to the bushes but would have to wait for him to move before a shot could be taken. We were able to get within 30 yards of where he was bedded and decided to wait him out. The wind was in our favour but after about 40 minutes of waiting the wind swirled slightly and he busted out of the bush at 100 miles an hour. We continued to see him over the next couple of days along with the other two big guys but were never able to get back into bow range. On the first Saturday of the hunt we followed the non-typical and the big 195-200" typical into the same coulee. we lost track of the non-typical but were able to watch the typical bed down. I won the toss to stalk him so began to move in on his position. I had reached a point where I was able to range him at 68 yards but it was impossible for me to get closer without being seen. He was still bedded and not aware of my presence when I decided to back away and try to come in at a slightly different angle where I could get a little closer. When I got back to a point where I could see his bedding spot he was gone. I am not sure what spooked him. I am thinking maybe an unseen smaller buck had spotted me and spooked taking the big buck with him. There had been a couple of smaller bucks with him earlier.
The bucks in this general area were starting to change there patterns and we were seeing less bucks every morning due to our pressure on them so we decided to move to a little different area. There was a lentil crop that alot of deer were feeding in and then moving back into the coulees to bed for the day. I had watched a few bucks on Wednesday night move out of the coulees towards the lentil field. There was a very wide 4X4 that was not real massive but he had very long tines and would have easily grossed in the 190's, there was also a very heavy 4X4 with very dark antlers that would have been pushing that 190 mark as well and then there was the buck I eventually shot. There were two draws that led up to the field and then when they would return in the morning these two draws fed into one larger draw. The point where they joined created a perfect bottle neck to ambush the bucks when they returned in the morning. Thursday morning I was positioned at the intersection of the two draws well before light. Before it was light enough to see I could here a bucks antlers rubbing on busehes. As it began to get light out I could make out a buck about 120 yards in front of me. It was probably 20 more minutes when I spotted the wide 4X4 coming along a trail towrds me. He stopped at 58 yards and began to thrash a bush. As he was thrashing I felt the cool breeze switch to the back of my neck and he bolted and took the two other good bucks with him. We decided to sit this same area on Friday morning. Things were pretty slow all morning and we were thinking about calling it quits. Just before we left we noticed a doe and two fawns working our way so we got back down and let her pass. Nothing else was coming so I stood to leave. As I stood I caught a glimpse of a buck coming down one of the two draws( almost screwd things up again). I was a little out of position but backed myself up against a bush and waited. The buck looked decent so I decided to shoot if I got the chance. My buddy still wanted to hold out for one of the big ones. This buck came along the same trail as the big 4X4 the morning before. He came through the bushes at 35 yards and stopped. He was looking right at us. I had already come to full draw and was just waiting for him to turn enough so I could take the shot. I wa at full draw for a fair amount of time and was thinking I was going to have to let down when he turned. I had my 30 yard pin 3/4 of the way up his side and released. The arrow hit right where the pin was. He whirled and ran back the way he came then circled around so he was across the coulee from us. Luckily for us he headed for the top of the coulee rather than the bottom which they usually do. He went about 100 yards and layed down the tipped over. He stayed right on the top of the coulee which made retrieving him much easier. He ended up being a little larger than I thought he was when I saw him coming.

Congrats on your archery buck. Also congrats on the nice story you wrote in Muley Crazy. That was a toad of a deer and a beautiful rack. Good job.

Congrats. Man that is one hell of a buck. Especially for archery. My question is how in the hell did you get close enough for a shot in that kink of country. Amazing.

Great archery buck saskman. You ought to be proud of that buck. Not to many of those good bucks taken anymore by archer's. Congradulations!
