Hi Everybody,

I'm looking for all the info I can get on the late season (Nov 10-16)hunt on the Mt Dutton unit. I have scouted several times without seeing much but I did assist a buddy on the early season rifle hunt where he put a 375 on his wall. But that was at 10,500 feet in Pine Creek and I am guessing they won't be there next month. I have been targeting the southern part of the unit but looking for info amywhere on the whole unit. I will be down there a couple more weekends to continue my scouting. The biologist told me the elk seldom migrate down to the lower junipers, I was thinking that is where I would be doing most of my hunting but not so sure now. All your tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jamie

I also had an early season rifle tag on MD this year. We heard about all the shootin that took place up on top, table top, jones corral, pine creek, etc. We hunted mostly in east hunt and center creek area and that is where I ended up getting my 370 bull on the last Saturday of the hunt. Also saw and called in alot of six points in the cedars on the west side of the unit around the sanford creek road. The elk will be in the junipers because they were there in September. Good luck man and kill a big one. Awesome hunt.

Well I seen a ton of bulls but there were 2 that I chased around for 5 days and never got a shot at either. From wind to does to sliding down rocky slopes I goofed up 4 chances at them. One was an extremely wide bull with nice points and the other had long points but not as wide. I would guess either one at 380-400. I had several chances at 350-360 bulls but after seeing the 2 big boys I never thought twice about the smaller bulls. Dutton is an awesome unit with tons of elk but it calls for lots of walking. We hiked on average 9 miles/day on East Hunt Creek. Needless to say my pants are a little looser now.
