My 15 year old son's first big game hunt was cancelled last year because of a bad dirt bike accident on the Labor Day holiday. He spent almost a month in the hospital... 4 days of which were spent in a coma. He's recovered very well over the past year and was not about to miss the hunting scene this year.

This year he drew a Wyoming tag for an area North of Jackson Hole. Last Saturday we headed into the field to see what we could find. We picked ourselves a good vantage point where we could overlook a large meadow. For most of the morning nothing moved through except for a few other hunters. At about 10:00 am 8 bulls showed up at the far end of the meadow. It took them amost an hour before they fed to within 100 yards. When the largest bull was broadside my son let him have it with my .270 WSM and 130 grain Nosler Accubond bullets. It took him three shots to keep him on the ground, but the bull was there to stay. I had one happy young man on my hands after that. It was a great time in the field with my son. The bull is a 6x8 and rough scored at 343 gross and 332 net. No bad for a first bull!

Now that's just awesome. I love hearing about the next generations firsts. And the pics are just icing on the cake!

Congrats
Glad to see he made a great come back after an accident like that.

Very nice bull. Especially for a first. A guy who posts here every once in awhile killed a bull in the same area that has the exact same antler configuration.

Great story glad to hear he is ok from the crash and back out hunting this year. That is a great looking bull.

AWESOME MAN GREAT JOB !!!!

I'd Rather Be Lost In The Woods, Then Found At Home !!!

Great bull!!!!! congrats to your son and give yourself a pat on the back, we as fathers need to keep the fire burning and take the kids out into the field.... Great job....

Super Bull!
Way to go Dad.
What a terrifying few days that must have been when he was in a coma.
I can't hardly imagine.
My son means more to me than life itself.
To see him in a hospital on the brink of death must have been unbearable.
My heart goes out to that young man and to his parents.
Congrats on helping him with that fine bull.
You done good there dad.

Way to go! Ain't elk huntin' wonderful!

One question though, why did you use such a small gun? ;-)

Thanks to all of you for your kind words and thoughts. My son enjoyed reading them. It's been a long year. My wife and I are very blessed to have our son still with us.

Regarding, "why did you use such a small gun?" Because we can! :)

Wish I had the crosshairs on a Elk like that one. That is going to be tough to beat.

Congrads to the young man. That is a fine Bull. I like a story with a happy ending. Well done.
