LAST EDITED ON Jan-04-03 AT 06:19PM (MST)[p] This is a picture of a Maine coyote we took last week in front of hounds.Bioligists now believe that our coyotes here are more related to Canadain wolves than western coyotes. This was a big coyote but not much bigger than a lot of the adults around here. What do you guys think, more like a yote or more like a wolf???

I dunno, looks like a big 'ol Yote to me but what do I know? You got the right idea either way... Lay it down in the dirt and then go check it out.

Looks like a hawg to me though!! Caught with dogs huh? Cool.

Out here coyotes are considered trash for us to run, except from June to Sept when I go out "coyote" hunting all the time. :)

Once bear and lion season opens, then coyotes are trash again.
;-) Way to go!! Cool picture.

Nice dog either way, it's a hog.

Hey dawg, is that anything like when someone says "you need to focus" and I reply focus, well focyou.

Dawg, we run them with running walkers.Really foxhound type dogs on steroids!!! When they catch on their own its a real war.Its more like big game hunting around here.I describe it as a cross between bear hunting and cat hunting with hounds.

Looks like a coyote to me.

The wolves I've seen had longer legs, bigger feet, bigger ears, longer tail, longer nose/snout. darker/grayer coloration. The wolf is larger overall, with a very distinctive hair pattern on the top of the neck/back.

Its a Coyote,

A wolf you wouldn't even pick it up off the ground. And if you did the legs would be draggin on the ground.

I know its a coyote guys.It is illegal to shoot wolves anyway.Point I was talking about was that our northeastern coyotes are more related to eastern Canadian wolves than western coyotes.A detailed DNA test has proven that.Originally, out eastern coyotes(which showed up in the late 70's and early 80's around here)were believed to be western coyotes that migrated east.Biggest one we have taken is 58lbs.Biggest I have seen taken around here weighed 78lbs on offical scales 2 days afetr it was shot.
I was more excited that I learned how to post pictures by myself than I was about the hunt!!!!

Sure looks like a coyote except they don't grow that big here in Idaho. Looks like that guy was on some steroids.
Did you get a weight on that bruiser, looks like 50 pounds or more. I have heard stories and seen pictures of many large Eastern coyotes, definitely a different type of dog than we see.
Nice picture!

looks like a nice coyote to me. seen a few wolves, timber and the mythical mexican grey/dog crosses that they're trying to get started in Az. coyotes get big. shot one once that weighed 63 pounds. that's about 3 times normal, but it did weigh that much. stunk worse than a javelina too. i think these curr's we have in Az. now are normally only around 40 lbs or so. the ones i've seen aren't very big and look enough like a coyote to fool ya.
