I am relativly new to the sport, I have been out a few times here in utah. I curently have the 3 call kit buy Sceery there western predetor kit, and the sceery howler. Is there a better call out there than these, what are you guys preferances on calls, what has worked best for you.

Thanks DeadI

You have all the calls you should need. Success for calling boils down to four simple things; LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION and setup. Don't go chase the "this call is the best one for..............." idea. The circe calls with the metal reeds have been sold in Arizona for decades and they still call coyotes. Same with the critter call. I bought mine over 10 years ago and use it and a circe now. I've called in dogs with the Sceery and they work also. Hope this helps.

Good Lord,

This site is being overrun with Coyote guys!! Ed comes out of the closet and now EVERYBODY is coming out!!

Good hell, if the Fly fishermen show up us hound guys won't even be the Biggest Liars on the site anymore and most likely bumped to third place!!

Heaven help us all. ;-)

There is an aura about turning loose a bunch of black dogs on a track and miles later walking up to find a critter perched in a branch. Nothing will ever be like that. Since I can't find a lion track I'll have to go plug the 'yotes once in a while. Dogging just helped prepare me for the discouragement of calling and not having anything come in.

Since my dogs are just like my women, Big...Black...& Trashy I'm giving them and the elk a break so back the hell off.

Oh and one more thing, if Dawg puts the f..u in fun, Ed puts the e..d in erectile disfunction:eek:

Did I tell you guys I was an Orvis certified fly fishing guide and instructor? Was is the key word in this statement. Goofy suckers weren't catching anything last fall on the Provo River and so I pulled out my sure fire Dawg fly. Casting the Dawg is hard as hell but scooping up the fish is a pleasure. Who knew the Orvis guys were catch and release?..............What's that? You want to know how to tie the sure thing?.........OK but only under protest. Clamp a #18 mustad 1703 hook firmly in the vise, wrap the wire with green chennile from the eye to the bend, tie a red tail out of calf pee hair and trim short, wind a peacock hurl 1/2 way and tie off, finish the head with two stiff verigated rooster hackles flared and trimed to the body on the underside. For the coupe-de-grace wrap the fly around the handle of a 1 gallon clorox bottle with the lid on loose. It is fished by casting directly upstream, don't mend the line just leave loose and run downstream as fast as you can 1/4 mile. Be sure you have a net ready and don't worry about size restrictions, when you're fishing with Dawg there are no restrictions:)

Boy, now you've gone and done it... Got me with a case of some serious Fishin' Fever!!

That's what we need, a hound doggers fishing trip!! Kev, CB, Ed, Catmando, the whole gang... a big 'ol fishing trip down to the Lee's Ferry. (Is that near Shiprock?) ;-)

What do we need? CB can bring the boat, I'll bring the beer, Ed can bring the women from Gallup, Kevin can supply the dynamite, assuming he has any left after this next prank for 'Lil Stevie. And if we can bust Catmando out of jail, he can bring the crack.

Say, whose driving?

I loved the post Ed, but the first part sounded real similiar to something Kevin told me recently. But he said, "There is an aura about turning loose a bunch of black dogs on a track and miles later walking up out of a deep canyon to find them all back asleep under your truck. Nothing will ever be like that."

He must have forgot that part about a critter in a tree. ;-)

I'll come, that is a dogger convention I wouldn't miss. I took the river trip last year and they are begging for the small fish to be harvested. I'm sure the Dawg fly targets smaller fish, doesn't it?

I would like a change of scenery this year. I'll still bring the Gallup women if you will swing by Colorado City on your way down and pick up some pligs...........no Dawg, not pigs, pligs like those gals who share husbands. Our little visit would be like a vacation.

Oh #####, I was just tying on another Dawgger and spilt the clorox on my bearskin thong. Oh well, I'm now a piebald and it ain't a pretty site.

Sorry boys, I'm not going to be able to make the Hounddogger fishing trip this year. I'm still trying to recover from last years "fiasco". I've about got all the fines paid off and I'll have my fishing license back in another year. I've got the lawyer about paid off for the DUI and just took my last prescription for, well, whatever it was that I had. All's I know is its finally gone and I can stand up while peeing.

you guys kill me! hahah everytime someone asked a question they get a few responses and then the bashing starts ad it's funny as hell. Brian :O)

HEY WAY TO ADDRESS THE QUESTION THAT I ASKED MAN YOU GUYS ARE A BUNCH OF IDIOTS. WHY DON'T YOU GO TO A BASH SITE AND LEAVE THIS ONE ALONE FOR THOSE OF US THAT ARE TRULLY INTERESTED IN IMPROVING OUR SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE. VERY DISAPOINTING.

I suspect because you used all capitals that you are screaming at us IDIOTS. so i will say this quietly, your question was answered in the 1st post. you gave no appreciation for that or my time in answering you. we all have our own way and if you are really interested in improving you skill, go to the field dude. better yet, find someone who would be willing to put up with your childish behavior and serious (anal) nature to show you how. most of the guys on this site i would take for free but you aren't welcome in my rig. one final bit of adivse, if you didn't find some amusement in the stuff posted above give up predator calling, you haven't the patience.

DeadIQ,

Sorry I ruined your post. I don't know squat about coyote calls but saw an opportunity to take a tongue in cheek friendly potshot at my buddy Ed.

So I'll do my best to answer your question now.

My answer: I don't have any freakin' idea what you are talking about cuz I've never even called a coyote in before with my old Johnny Stewart call.

But after 10 years at a computer company I can tell you something... On the lefthand side of your keyboard, assuming it's a normal keyboard, there is a button called "Caps Lock".

This button is for... well, I'll let you do some research and figure it out.

Sorry I ruined your post. It won't happen again. I'll keep my snide remarks to the hounding threads and leave you coyote guys alone. Just trying to be friendly and have some fun.

DeadI- Here is a little tidbit for you. There is a website called www.predatormastersforums.com that could allow you to filter a wealth of predator calling info from it. Just about any question you have, has already been asked there.

I am not the most experience caller around but have a couple tips for you. 1) Call in areas that might be hard to access or that you have to hike in to.(Yeah, the snow can be deep but it is worth getting away from the road) 2) Be sneaky and use the wind to your advantage(if they make you, your done) 3) Bring a shotgun with buckshot for your lap and use it on the hard chargers (Success rate goes way up)

This is a hard time of year to get them to come in compared to late Feb on through the rest of the Winter. Almost any sort of distress call works on uneducated coyotes that haven't been shot at or duped before.

Don't worry Dawg, I will let you ruin my post anytime, I've been around long enough to know how to take you. The caps lock comment was the best! lol.

Buckspy hit it right.
Go to predatormasters.com. There are LOTS of very experienced coyote callers there who will answer your questions with the kind of seriousness you are looking for.

I appreciate the response that you gave buckspy and hound dawg. Sorry about the all caps thing I am a drafter and get used to haveing the caps lock on, I was not yelling, I did appreciate the very first post. I was just looking for a little more info on my question and not on the other stuff. Sorry if I came off wrong and I will try not to use the caps lock again. I do get a laugh out of allot to the posts that are here that is why I write in everonce on a while. Thanks for the humility post as well I probably deserved them.

A humbled DeadI
