CO Mule Deer

19-25 inches. Bucks have small ears and big ears but if he's big enough, you won't have to worry about field judging because you be saying "OH SH_T!" and scrambleing trying to get a shot at him. Someone will probably answer 22 inches because they read it on the internet while living vicariously through others exploits. hehehe

Whos calling who a smart-alec here??? Thats a classic case of the steaming pile of pheasant guts calling the wallow-rolling rutting bull elk stinky...

I'll concur with the 22" being average from MANY diffferent sources, but its just a blanket average, and all bucks are different.

I resemble that remark, Burt.

An example of a little-eared buck is the one that Deerking and I have photographed the last few years that is in the latest issue of Muley Crazy magazine and was alos posted by Jeff under Timberline velvet or something like that. That buck has little ears for a big heavy dude. My biggest buck from back in 2000 had a 27 inch neck and my taxidermist used moose earliners on his ears because the large muley ones were too small. His ear spread is 25 inches on the mount. Two extremes in those two mature bucks.

Yeah, the link to the pic is gone, but I know the one you are talking about. You and DK have some awesome pics of that one. He's one of those monster Colorado poster-child, hunting mag infesting non-typicals I sure never get tired of seeing pics of.
Who wouldn't like to be the first to measure that beasts ears... :)
Speaking of stinking rutting bull elk... know anyone that has any good recent Colorado elk hunting stories???

Buckspy, I had to give up my muzz tag to make some cash seeings how I lost my job at the end of August. I've been guiding elk hunters on a ranch in CO you are familiar with. Now I'm pumped up about elk and I'll be going back for trophy bucks. There's my life story.........but I've got more time to paint!!!
