Has anybody heard anything about a 540, public land, bull shot in CO, this year? A friend was talking about it and it sounds like a bunch of bull (pun intended) to me. I'm thinking that maybe in AZ, NM, and or other states, but not CO.

Anything over 440 you need to immediatley think ranch hunt or taken from a ranch and put on public

"443?????"

Here we go again.............and again..............and again..........................and again..............and again.............

It's Bush's fault!!!

Middlehoof, a couple of years ago, I met a guy at my favorite watering hole. He is a roofing contractor (and a great guy I might add)but during the fall if things got slow, he would take a large livestock trailer full of 350 class bulls out west to some outfitter's to be let loose on one end of a private ranch to be shot at the other end by the hunters(not knowing what was going on). The reason this was mention to me was, he and I were talking about my 2004 Elk hunt in NM with a outfitter, and that I wanted my great nephew Dane Robert, to see some live elk. Other than going to Lone Elk Park in Missouri, we live in IL, (so we can't go out the backyard to see them like alot of member here). He responsed with, the next time I'll call you on my way out west and if you are around with Dane I'll stop by to show you guys. But, he never called. When I started to question what outfitter,('s) ranch, state, etc, he kinda clammed up. Don't know if this is true, but man! could you imagine spending all that money on a western elk hunt to find out you shot a pen raised elk from IL. Just thought I'd share.

As a few others have hinted at, that is a high fence bull that was killed in Canada. Another thread on here even had the ranch website.

i was under the impression that a 300 class bull in CO was the equivelent to a 400 class bull anywhere else.

i live in grand junction and there is a couple of elk ranches out there the pic that is there looks like it could be from there

LAST EDITED ON Nov-06-07 AT 03:57PM (MST)[p]You are right it is a ranched bull - but not from Colorado -from Saskatchewan. There are some other pics of it on a different thread. Like the Geico.com Caveman says in the commercial:

"Yeah, maybe next time you could do a little research"

Here is the other link - note the caption on the photo - also says it is a 502 bull. MOOOOOOO.

Man what's next? Another giant 500 bull from the Selway-Bitteroot Wilderness? (hint - search for Selway-Bitteroot bull from last year)

There is an elk ranch just outside of Bayfield CO that "had" a bull that looked VERY similar to this one. A good friend of mine got to shoot it with the tranqulizer gun so they could take some blood tests. I saw the pictures they took and these two look like twins.

This ranch is somehow trying to figure out how to make wild elk immune to CWD.

BTW, the ranch bull scored over 500!
