wyoming G and H

I haven't heard of any exceptional bucks being taken this year yet. Nothing shaking amoungst the locals up in that area.

I'd think that with the snow and cold weather near the opener, there should have been some big-timers whacked. Let's hear it from you guys in the western high country - what's up???

I didn,t see any big ones and there were quite a few hunters in my area of region H.I did miss a good Buck about 26 inches and passed on some small ones. Two of the guys I hunted with taged a 3 and 4 point about 23 inches wide.I hope next year is a lot better.I have to addmit that I did have a great time tho...Devlin

I got a 26" 4x5 in region H. I was 8 miles off the trailhead, heard a few shots. When I came back to the trailhead, I did not see any bucks hanging, just a bunch of ATV's. Not trying to start an ATV war because I do own one. I just do not see how they would be much help in that type of country.

I will probably be harrassed by a few folks for mentioning this but I have a good friend that killed a 12x6 that grosses 216" in G. I have not seen the deer yet but it sounds like a STUD!

Theres a buck from Region H getting mounted in UT right now that was killed opening day that scores over 220....

Seen a few nice bucks come out of Cliff Creek and such, but we haven't had much luck yet. Just haven't seen the number and quality of bucks like in years past, but its still fun! Still got a few more days to try...

When the game warden checked my buck he told me a bout a 219" buck that was taken. He said it was taken by his friend and he would not tell him the vicinity.

I returned from wyoming today. My friend Craig and I hunted region G for five days. We backpacked into some STEEP country. We saw many small bucks, a couple of 23"-24" 4x4's, and harvested the one monster that we saw. He is a 32 3/4" wide, 21" tall, 4x5 with a couple of small sticker points. We aren't pro's, but we scored him at about 207" gross. I'll try to post some pics in the next couple days.

I am heading for H monday. My buddy just left there without any sucess. I hope I can do better. Don

Sorry guys, but I've got to eat my words. Gonna have to wait for the Nov/Dec issue of Mulie Crazy to see my buck. David asked me not to post the pics until after the mag is out. Working on my story now, so hopefully if all goes well the buck will be in that issue. I've still got an ear to ear grin, by the way! Hard work finally paid off!

>your name is not paul peezley
>is it

I'm assuming that you're asking me because of my screen name. No, my name is Don Pezer. My middle name is Paul, though. I'm from CA.

I hunted area G for the entire 24 days it was open and i did not see nearly as many big deer as i had in the past. I passed on a cuple of bucks in the 24 to 26" range but never saw anything big enough to shoot. Most people that i talked to saw fewer deer than in the past.

P.S. --I did however see three different bears and a wolf. I also saw several nice bull elk.

The following text was forwarded as part of a newsletter I get from a guide named Jonesy (jackson hole outfitters) http://www.JacksonHoleOutfitters.com . He does a good job for his clients and always kills nice bucks. Thoguht I'd share his take on the season......

"Hi all,
We finished our mule deer hunt and I have been so incredibly busy I haven't had time to write a report.
Brief summary is that we killed 24 bucks by the 37 hunters. Some were really good bucks, some were just bucks. Average size was less than normal. We killed one 30 incher and several 28+ inchers, some of them really good ones.
We only saw 4 whopper bucks in the whole season, whereas we usually see 4 per week between the bunch of hunters. I have only heard of two really big bucks coming out of the whole Greys River area this year.
Why the smaller size overall? Two factors, in my opinion. One, we had a rather severe winter on the winter range this past winter. About 30% of the adult deer died, about 70% of the fawns. Those who didn't die were stressed, so it took them a while to repair and then begin to grow antlers. Stress in winter means smaller antlers in the fall.
Second, we had a wet summer. I have seen it before, that a wet summer seems to produce smaller antlers in the fall. My speculation is that the vegetation grows faster, therefore there are fewer nutrients per bite than when the vegetation grows slower. Slow growth has more concentrated
nutrients. I was talking with a cattleman the other day and he confirmed that where cattle are concerned. With lush green fast-growing vegetation they don't put on weight as fast as when the vegetation grows slower.
Anyway, we did see a number of good bucks that will be trophy class for next year, so here's hoping for a mild winter and a dryer summer in 2005.
I will write my success report as soon as I can get some time and will send you a copy and also post it on my website.
