Late Holden Area Elk Hunt

A good friend of mine has a tag for the unit down by Holden. I want to say it's Oak Ridge or Oak Creek, sorry I forgot the name it's been a long day. I'm headed down with him next week to see what we can find. He's been down several times scouting and hasn't seen anything impressive. If any of you know the area and could point us in a decent direction I would greatly appreciate it. I am not looking for your honeyholes or anything like that but some info would be great. I have helped several people on here before and I love the way some return the favor. Thanks in advance!! Good luck hunting.

Wish I could help you out. A guy I work with shot a dandy out there back in 2000. I will have to get details.

On the UDWR website it says they are reccomending making this an Any Bull Unit next year. It said it didn't meet the requirements of an LE Unit. Anyone else hear this?

If it were me I'd be looking from holden to Scipio Pass west of the I-15. "Eightmile canyon and surrounding areas"

Sent you a pm. Unit is not known for great big bulls. If you find something 340+ I would not pass him up. Ocassionally there are some bigger bulls taken. Good luck.

Yup, I read it to! And if it goes thru, I think a ZOO will be an understatement, I helped a friend there last year on the late LE hunt and it seemed like every hunter brought 12 spotters!

Thanks for your help guys. We are headed down scouting this weekend. We'll see what happens.

I would pay a lot of attention down by Cove Fort as well. A lot of bulls cross from off the Pahvaunt over on to the Oak Creek through there.

Good Luck!
