Hey man, can you give me some info on a cost for a cat hunt? Taxidermy cost for a full size cat mount? And who to go with?

Muzz,
I can help you with some general stuff but you may want to ask the hound guys about price.

First of all, do you have a tag for somewhere this year??? If it was me, I would look for a guy who knows the Unit you have drawn pretty well and most important, has some access to good lion property.

If your thinking Harvest Objective Units, I really cant help you.
Prices for lions are just like everything else but you generally get what you pay for. These hound guys spend a lot of time and big $$ to chase lions and the good ones dont do it for free.$1000-$2000 range would be reasonable for someone good that has access to some good property and provides the equipment.??

Kade is getting his lion full body mounted for around $2500. Of course this also depends on who does it and how good of a job
you want. Also how much rock work ect. Dirk Barnes is doing his.

Some of the best hound guys around are on this site and would probably take you if you get a tag. Another guy I would go with around here is Clay Carter in Morgan. He's fair and honest and has good dogs and the country to hunt in Morgan and East Canyon.

Stop by and see the lion The Dawg got for Kade. It's pretty nice.
Hope this helps.

Hey Muzz,

I might be able to give you some general info depending on which unit you are looking into.

Kevin knows the Northern part of the state a bit better, but he's gone today on Work Release and there's no computers when you're picking up trash along side I-15.

CB is pretty close on price... I'm right in there depending on which unit and what kind of lion a guy wants. I know a few cheaper and a few more expensive.

We got CB's boy a nice one. We started him right off a dumpster there at the Wingers in Ogden. Guess it had taken a real shine to those leftover buffalo wings. ;-)

Thanks guys, Right now I am just looking at the prices so i know where I will be when I decide to do it. The wife likes the full body cat mounts and I have always wanted one. I thought I would ask here and get the advice from the experts.

Thanks a bunch, Chad Oh ya I seen Kades cat on here from the pictures, That is one big cat. Love to do it with a bow.

Muzz here is some info on some dam good dod runners don't have there phone numbers but if you call infomation I/m sure they will

Fred singlton, Tagert Utah
Larry Pentz, Lost Creek Utah
Clay carter, Morgan utah
Kory Richins, Henefer Utah
Garret Wolstemhume, Wanship utah
Adn as for taxedermy the 2 best in the state are Hight Uintas in coalville and dave wildlife art out of ogden

I love this forum, what the hell are dod runners that are dam good? I've been to Glen Canyon Dam and even in the belly of Hoover Dam but never saw a dod runner. Keep up the good work peta, I'm sure your handle doesn't represent who you really are or your beliefs.

Ed, putting the VI" in Viagra

And if you can't do something with that let the Dawg or CB know cause they'd be all over it.

Muzz,

I don't know any of those guys personally, but I've heard good things about Clay Carter. Hell, I even heard one guy say he wasn't almost as good a Hound guy as me, so I'm anxious to meet him. ;-)

I've also heard things about Fred Singleton. I'll take the 5th on this one. Heard of the Pentz fellar but can't remember what was said...

And I lived with a Woolstenhulme in college. If they hunt half as hard as they drink, chase girls and rodeo, you'll have your hands full keeping up with Glade. ;-)

As for Taxidermists, don't know the ones up in your country but there is a fellar in our country and cats are his specialty. His cats generally win whatever show he puts them in.

BUT... he is very expensive and very slow. If you are wanting to see your lion anytime soon he's not your man. He takes his sweet time and sometimes I wonder if he doesn't display them for a year in his own den before calling the customer. ;-)

CB and his boy just hired me cuz they knew I was a light weight and wouldn't drink all their beer like those lushes up in your country. :)

Good luck buddy. -Dawg "Putting the VIII in Viagra"...
(For those of you who missed Ed's little play, he's using Roman numerals instead of v...i... Meaning what he really said was... Oh I'll let you figure it out. -Dawg IX

Hmm... VI with the "GAL" in Gallup and putting the "ROCK " in Shiprock... all the while maintaining the ALCY in alcoholic and being the Dawg in Houndawg.. Just be careful with the viagra .. otherwise you might put the MUTT in Mutton.. Ewwwwe !! And end up GONE as in Gonorrhea.. Anyway..

X-IV Buddy.. and hope you have enough Viagra for II'ds :)

You UT boys have all the fun ;-)

Check you LVIIIr

Good Hell. Don't cha hate when ya get chit on your shoes and can't get it off. And it just follows you around.

Peta, this is a fun place down here with no moderators to clean up your mess. So go back up to the general forum and tell everybody a couple more times what the best caliber is, how your the worlds greatest deer hunter, who the states best taxidermist is, and how CWMU's and me suck.

Ed, don't be to hard on the boy's spelling. You know what the longest, hardest thing on a kid from Morgan is, dont cha???

Third grade.

I didn't know he was from Morgan. Seems to me that the hardest thing on a kid from Morgan would be getting my black dog off his leg. That is where my female comes from and you should see.........well, never mind.

I know he's not tied up with my coonhound breeder because Mr. Duncan didn't make the top hunter in the state post. I'll forgive you Dawg if you go off on this, black dog and all. But you know what is said about them AZ Rednecks, "we like our women just like our dogs; Big, Black and Trashy."

Ed

Apparently, Dogs and women aren't the only thing Ed likes Trashy since he hangs around with Me, Kev and CB.

Ah Morgan... home of the black and tan. 'Ol Duncan is a heckuva nice guy. Talked to him a couple times but never had one of his dogs, but I've seen a few in action...

Ed has one and my recollection is it's big and lurpy, mouthy as hell, smells like rotten mink food, growly, always trashin', seldom honest, always lookin' for a fight and hard headed as the worst bluetick...

Oh wait, that's Ed not the dog. The dog is a pretty nice one.

-Junkyard Dawg

I'm not the best lion hunter there is but i found a couple sets of fresh tracks in echo canyon if anyone is intrested i would love to see them taken out of there

If you want to see good taxidermy on lions, check out the lion Dirk Barns did for CB's friend Travis. It is at Sportsmans in Riverdale, above the optic bar South side. He make averything look good. Even CB's ugly cat somebody else did.
Yelum

Yer right Yelum, my cat is ugly. If I would have known about Dirk back then I'd have me a purdy mount like Trav's. You get what you pay for I guess. The only other choice I had at the time was the guy in SL Dawg is talking about and Dave Butthead. The guy in SL was too much $$$ and I wouldnt let Butts mount my dead housecat for free.:)
If taking 5 years to get something done while constantly lying to you is the "best" the state has to offer, I'll pass thanks.

Hey cb, I heard that buttsniff does a great job on housecats.
Matter of fact he did one for your old neighbor in Roy. I think the cats name was "Gi-Gi". He did a hell of a job on that one.
Even got the dog slobber out of its fur and everything.
Later Bro, ezra

Fred singlton of Tagert Utah took a 195 lb cat so i was told today by Garet Wolstenhume i guess it had been eating a beef for the last 3 days

Yeah, me, dawg and the boy treed that one this year. Hell, I think we treed it last year too. It was kind of scrawny looking so we let him go. I dont know if thats really true but all the good hounders say that so I thought I would try it.

That Fred's a hell of a cat guy though. A 195 pounder is not all that big for him though. He kills em all the time bigger than that. I'm surprised he'd gas one that small really. Oh, and Butt's is really my favorite taxidermist too.

Don't know Fred Singleton but this is about the third or fourth "190+ lb." lion I've heard about this year. 190 lb lions are like 45" bucks... you hear about 'em but no one has ever actually seen one and can prove it. ;-) Probably a few around but pretty rare...

But I'm a hound guy so I know all too well about hound guys and how they are.

I think my buddy summed it up best, "I've never heard of a lion being killed that WASN'T 8 foot and 190 lbs. They're ALL that big when you talk to the houndsman."

So if his lion went 195 lbs. I'd say that's about average from what I'm hearing this year. I've already had two guys throw out the "200" number to me.

Weight doesn't mean alot to me, especially one ran off a dead beef. Measure the skull. That's the real way to tell how big the tom was. If the skull goes 15" after the drying period it was a HAWG.

Happy hunting boys. Or drinking or whatever you're doing...

-Dawg

HoundDawg's right, I don't think I've ever heard anyone outside the hound community admit to harvesting a small or even average sized tom, nope, they're all big bastards. I suppose us houndsmen guides are mostly to blame, a little post harvest reinforcement is always good for business. :)

Hell, just last week I was handed a photo of a lion somebody's brother-in-laws cousin shot up in Idaho that would have edged Theodore Roosevelt's lion out of the number 5 spot all time Boone and Crockett. Of course, the lion was skinned at the tree so it was never weighed, only estimated. It's skull was also never officially measured so Teddy still hangs on to the number 5 spot (now that outfitter had some REAL talent to sell that one!).

All I can say is you boys better never meet up with me across a poker table because I can hold a straight face like nothing you've ever seen! ;-)

Ezra? Is it really you? Are you The One?

In the ancient writings of the earliest houndsmen, they spoke of a Chosen One coming forth in the final days of hounding... his name was to be Ezra.

I think our leader has finally arrived and made a post.

I have studied the writings extensively and our houndsmen forefathers prophecied extensively of Ezra, the chosen one.

How he would rise from the dust and ash of the northern Utah diluted black and tan gene pool, and how he would do many great works.

How he would cure Kevin's mental problems, and cleanse all of Ed's sexual ailments. How he could restore the dignity and self esteem of even PumaGuy and Mulehound, after years of riding those timber pigs around in the ledges trying to catch game. He he would bring justice and punishment to the wicked that sucked NVBighorn into the hounding world... How he would cleanse northern Utah of all it's mouthy mystery track running black dogs, and even free Catmando from the prison shackles that held him bound.

Surely this Ezra is the chosen one and the day of houndsmen reckoning is close at hand.

Ezra, if you are the one, please show mercy on me and my trashy, growly, hard headed bluetick dogs. And I am at your service. Houndsmen have waited many years for your arrival. We are ready for you to lead us out of the bars, pubs and dives and the ranks of respect and admiration with our fellow outdoorsmen.

We await your instructions Ezra... -The Dawg (no longer dirty and mangy, the new Dawg)

Yes Dawg, tis I, The chosen one. I was sent here from a much higher leader, Adolph Coors. He wanted me to come and clean up you filthy, heathonous, sick minded and truly twisted hound doggers.....Aparrently I'm much too late. You guys are too far gone.

You are definatly my kind of people!

The Chosen One

Ezra,

I have some news chosen one... there is one among us who is beyond hope, beyond even houndsman salvation.

There is one they call CB, who is so far gone, he makes even the most hardened plott guy look like a choir boy.

They say he runs Weiner dog/Plott crosses, and Keystone Light flows in his veins instead of blood... and lives by the feud.

There is no hope for this one Ezra... even for the chosen one that ancient houndsmen said would come...

Ed and Kevin will be all you can handle, this CB is beyond hope.

Adolph Coors sent you eh? Ummmmm. Gotta run, I'm a bit thirsty. As Homer and our buddy with his handle would say,
"Mmmmmmbeeer." ;-)
