Just kidding, just thought I would share some pics of me and my brothers bulls we got this year.

Here is my bull, hes a 3x4. I shot him 6 times at about 50 to 80 yards in the thick lodge pole pines. he was a real die hard cause I shot him with a 300short mag 3 times in the front shoulder and twice in the neck before he went down.

Here is my brothers bull a nice 4x5 that went down with one shot to the neck, with his .243 at about 100yards.

I would say it has more to do with the bullet than the caliber. Seems like magnums at close range just blow holes all the way through and the animal doesn't soak up all the energy. That has been my experience. I've hit elk in the same spot at 80 yards and 300 yards with a 300wm and the 300yd shot dropped in his tracks and the 80yd took two more bullets and went 50 yards. Go figure.

one shot with a .243 eh? goes to show it's all about placement... or lack there of..e.g. six shots with the .300 WSM

nice elk! they are tough animals

Those would be some perfect bulls to take in a management bull area... Congradulations on taking the animals. It's nice to know that with proper shot placement a 243 can do the job. I havve been wondering if I should let my wife get out with our 243 and get some elk.. She is an exellent shot I think I might just let her have at it.

Ungulate, My brothers killed probly 8 elk with that rifle.

And Bul_Krzy, I never claimed to be the best shot in the world.;-):)
