I HATE to even post this, but I have to- think of it as therapy-

I'm not hunting right now. There is a hunt going on (Utah muzzleloader). Took the family up the mountain to see the fall colors, roast some marshmallows - family time. Loaded a 4 wheeler and took my daughters for some short rides on designated trails. What we found right next to the trail is what BUGS me big time. Some body had shot and left a doe! I won't give them the title of hunter 'cause that is definitely NOT what they are!
If I called them what I would like to it wouldn't be printable. Browtine would take it off the site. It had rained and rained - the wheeler trail looked like it hadn't had any one on it from spring til now- no tracks. The deer had been there long enough that the flies where on it, but not bloated yet. I can see a senario- The lazy butt probably kept the very thing parked on thier 4 wheeler for three- four days. Now faced with having to go back to work, or whatever. They were mad they didn't pop that 'monster' two spiker right off the trail, and the doe suffered the brunt of the anger, wasting it's life, it's future offspring ( that we so desperately need in these parts right now, cause the deer herd is really suffering )so manly man co7ld brag how he nailed one.. oh it was so huge, but .. it got away... made good shot, though. What a shame. I mean even if they had laoded it up and hauled it out and used the meat, it wouldn't be this bad.

So while you are listening to all those 'hunting' stories, and the one comes out of a guy you KNOW or even suspect fits the above story.. maybe it wouldn't hurt to make him squirm a little, call his story into question. It's possible that I'm not capable of writing what I really would like to say about this. I'm sick about it, though. I didn't call the warden, it looked impossible to find any evidence. The canyon had emptied of people pretty much, I mean they picked the opportune time to do the DEED. Think I should call the warden?

Yes, you should have called the warden. Still could. There may not be anything they can do about it, but maybe it would give the warden's a reason to patrol that area more in the future.

Had the same thing happen a couple of years ago, was in an area where there was no doe hunting whatsoever, and I found one somebody had shot through the guts with an arrow, about two weeks later found a different one about a quarter mile away. Probably shot by the same guy. Game and fish wouldn't have been able to do anything about it. I know they found atleast one of the does, but they're undermaned, due to the fact they spend all our money on landowner relations and multi-million dollar buildings.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-05-04 AT 05:11AM (MST)[p]Yes, call a game warden! They can dig out bullet fragments and compare them to others that they might have, if they have an idea who might be doing it. You would be supprised how word can get back to the game dept on issues like this. A buddy gets pissed, someone over hears the guy talking about it etc. With a tiny bit of evidence an one tip, a case can be made. I know a guy that was busted just that way. A guy over heard him yaking about shooting a 2 point in a 3 point or better area, in the local tavern. The guy waited for him to leave, got his license plate number, went to the area that the dude had been talking about, found the buck and called the game cop. The game cop took pics, dug out bullet frags and started a case. They found the dude, took his rifle, tested it against the fragments and came up with a match. The dude was nailed with a number of citations, had his rifle and hunting license taken until all fines were payed in full.

I agree call the game warden. It is stuff like this that ruin hunting opportunities for all of us.

I guess that you guys are correct. I called the warden (should have sooner) I'll see where this goes.
