Kitties Mating?

Hey there... spent all last week sleeping on some wet, cold hard ground chasing some bucks with my Muzzy here in Utah. I unfortunately have not bagged one, but will be back up there tomorrow for a last chance. My buddy Brian bagged a 26" 4x4, real heavy horned that grossed just over 173" and netted 170 1/4". Will post pics as soon as I get them developed. Anyway, the question I had is about cats mating... wednesday afternoon from roughly 3-4:30 we sat and glassed a canyon and listened to 2 cats going at it. When I say going at it.. they could have been fighting, they could have been f**king... I have no idea. They hissed, growled and screeched for over an hour. We never did see either of the cats, and neither of us were going in after them. Has anyone ever experienced this kind of thing? Any knowledge on their mating habits? Timeline? Only info I can dig up is that they have no set mating season.

I remember the first time my parents took me to hogle zoo when I was a kid and the cougars were mating, the growling, hissing and screaming could be heard through out the zoo.
