This is my bull that I shot this year on the awesome MD LE. It was everything that I could've asked for in a hunt. I had opportunities to take many different bulls over several days and to my own surprise held out.
On the eighth day of the hunt my friend / bishop spotted this bull along with a dozen or so cows. He called me over the radio as they sky lined a couple canyons away from where I was. At the time I, along with my dad and brother were sitting in a big bowl that had five bulls bugling back and forth at each other and two had finally presented themselves. I was literally seconds away from pulling the trigger on a smaller but descent six point when the call came across. It was the toughest decision to leave those bulls with the hunt nearing its end. Reluctantly, we got up and left the bulls to go stalk this herd bull.
By the time we reached the spot where these elk were it had started to rain pretty hard. It was already close to noon and we felt the elk would probably be bedding down just over the ridge where they were out of sight. Sure enough as we neared the top of the saddle where they had gone we bellied down and there they were across from us about 300 yards.
When I pulled up my binos there he was across the canyon laying under a pine tree looking straight at me. A few seconds later he turned his head and my heart skipped a beat as I could see that there was no doubt he was the one I wanted.
Bishop was spotting our stalk and called over the radio informing us that there were also two satellite bulls that looked to be challenging this bull. My brother then bugled and our bull stood up and slowly began to move in our direction. When he finally turned broadside I fired and piled him up, one shot with my trusty 30-06!!
I haven't had him scored officially yet but I couldn't be happier. I hope everyone who loves elk hunting gets an opportunity like this. It was a hunt I'll always remember.

congrats on a great bull, and thanks for the excellent story. this is what hunting is all about, being in the wilds with your friends and family.

Very good Bull, congratulations. When you have it officially scored, if it is a B&C OM, be sure to tell him about the radio use.

>Relaying information with radios? I thought
>that was a no-no

Give him a break..................
Dang nice bull man. Congrats.

As far as I know. Using radios is against the law only in Montana. What about cell phones? What if a guy sees a good bull and calls you on the phone and tells you the area the bull was seen and you kill him the next day? What about CB radios that some outfitters use all the time? Almost every outfitter has people looking for good bulls and sharing info, on what they are seeing, videoing, and where the bulls. Congrats on a fine bull taken with friends.

The Fish and Game Officer that checked me for my license did seem to care. It was clipped onto my pack in full view. Sorry if some of you think that is unethical to use radio. I guess we should get rid of rangefinders, scent lock clothing and anything else that doesnt give the animal fair advantage.

It is not illegal to use radio's to hunt with....just relaying info about the animal your hunting. That being said, pretty much everyone does it.

There is only one regulation or bans on radio use while hunting big game in the state of Utah:

Youth must be accompanied by adult, not just in range of electronic device, while hunting.

So you did nothing wrong.

I did a full search on the regs, and then called 2 different FG offices for that information.

Once again. Great Elk!!
