Just kidding. Thought I'd post a before and after pic of the 130 gr.scirocco I pulled from a good size cow. 250 yards, double lung, 3100 fps MV, just under the hide on opposite side. Bullet still weighs 124 grains. Sorry for pic quality.
That is funny that the 270 can't kill elk. I have seen about 20 head fall to a pre 64 270. This last one had the rug yanked by my 13 year old son at 354 yards. She never moved a hoof. Ron
went to an elk farm (which shall remain nameless) in which my fried jonesy worked at. he killed em with a 22 mag. I'm gonna say that when i'm out in the woods a 270 will do but i still feel a little under powered and would choose a heavier bullet backed by a little more powder. but hey, a 22 works. lol
the only eagle with enough power and speed to kill and gut you with one shot
Ive taken many elk with a .270 and also shot my buffalo with one shot from my .270, which dropped immediately. I now shoot a bigger gun at elk, but I think the most important aspect is location, rather than caliber.

Scirrocco's are great bullets that consistently do the job. I shot my Colorado Bull right at 500 yards with my 280 Rem and he never took a step. The yardage was measured before I took my shot with my Leica Rangefinder. Where YOU put the bullet is what counts!
LAST EDITED ON Nov-24-07 AT 10:24PM (MST)[p]This is my Elk I took this season. I used my Tikka T3 .270 shooting 150 gr. XP3's travling +3000 fps. Don't know what the weight retention was, the bullet punched right through him. He walked only 15 yards.
