Fillmore or Enterprise

I'm a nonres trying to get some opinions on these areas for the general deer hunt. Friends have told me the area around Enterprise are pretty good during bow season but then others have said to try around Fillmore. We'll probably head out three days before the opener to scout but I'm having a hard time deciding which area to go. Thanks in advance.

I've never hunted Filmore but Enterprise was a zoo. I saw plenty of small bucks, and did get a 25 incher with my muzzleloader. Great hunt but way too many people. I was hunting an area that has a quad track back into it. I left at 4:30 in the morning, while on station, I could see the trail and watched 26 quads following me in. I was just lucky to see and get a nice deer. What a zoo!!!!!!! I hunted this same area in 2002 and saw maybe 10 total hunters. What happened? I was told of three nice bucks in this area and I believe I got one of them. The dedicated hunter program is off and blooming. Best of luck to you, and try and stay away from the crowds.

Fillmore (Pavant)is a zoo, too. Used to be that because of the steepness and lack of roads a hunter could out walk the competition. Not the case anymore. On top of that the Gov Tag holders have killed some nice bucks on it's winter range. The DWR has touted it as the best Deer herd by Unit in the State. You'll find plenty of company looking for those bucks that are there! P.S. bring your hiking boots and a set of lungs - think horses. There is a good amount of privte property, and those bucks that the Gov Tag holders shoot (IMO) know where they are relatively safe while the ridges are covered with "pumkin patches" - ATV's are a growing problem with 'the other guy syndrome' in full effect (i.e. it won't hurt to drive off the designated trail - the other guy's stay on it, so it won't hurt this once) and they are getting farther and farther into areas off limits. (Isn't there an Agency that is supposed to police that? Yeah, righ!) You might see a real trophy Bull Elk, though! Good Luck

I live close to the the Enterprise area, scout all summer and hunted the archery and muzz hunts. There was way to many people this year and last year as well. It really took its tole. I only saw a handful of bucks over 22in. the largest might have made 26. It was really tuff. I had 2 friends from out of state that drew muzzleloader tags. They held out till the end,one took a forky, the other went home empty handed. Good luck to you though.

I, like most guys I know, love the Fillmore-Beaver area. Almost eveybody has come to this area at least once in their life. Alot of shooting too. It's a beautiful place. I hope It's not to crowded when you get there. Most of the action is in the canyon, but I hear the peaks are good too. Good Luck
