LAST EDITED ON Oct-13-04 AT 11:16PM (MST)[p]Would love to see some pictures or hear stories of some Teanaway Deer over the years, let's hear some scores B&C or P&Y and add some outside spread to the stories. My relatives use to take some nice bucks, (150's max. 23 in.) out of there in the early 80's and late 70's somebody got some recent stories and bigger bucks? Those of you hunt this area probably remember the little convenience store on the way up there, it had pictures of bigger bucks I was around 10 years of age couldn't tell ya the scores at that age. I killed a 160 buck in 2000 in the unit 24inch spread, would love to hear of some upper 170's or better.

Hey BFH,

I loved to explore and hunt the Teanaway, but havent been around there in a decade or so. I went to school in Eburg for 5 years or so and spent all the time I could up Manastash or Teanaway.

I remember that store clearly and loved to look at the pics. I remember a huge bull and a real nice buck, 170ish, with "Jolly Mountain" written on the pics.

I hunted up Bean Creek Basin a few times and always thought I was going to get the big one, but never did.

Good to reminisce about the Teanaway,

Thanks for the response, just got back from there with my brother and friend this weekend, hunted a new area, saw quite a few motorbikes after a long hike in. Saw no deer, lot's of sign but they would of had to of been within 100yds for most of the weekend due to fog and rainy conditions. Had fun, beautiful country and I know there's deer there of decent caliber will go back someday when the conditions permit a little better "spot and stalk" method. REALLY WOULD LIKE TO HEAR SOME STORIES STILL.

BTW, both Miller and Bear creek trails are open to "motorbikes"

I hunted Teanaway for the first time this weekend. The weather up top was miserable. Especially after hiking to the peak in the dark only to find solid clouds/wind/rain. Anyway I am excited to hunt that area. it has potential. The guy I was with has hunted there for years. No real monsters, but some very nice deer. One of the guys next to our camp shot a decent 4x4. maybe 24"w x 24" high and it was considered a "Nice little buck". Most of the deer he harvests are bigger.

I learned my lesson. You need to be in shape to hunt there. Lots of steep mountains and big country. Better be prepared to do some serious meat packing upon success.

Anyway, it would be fun to hear more stories or see pic of deer from there. i will ask my "guide" if he has any pics I can scan in.

Nice story Polaris, I agree, the country has unbelievable potential and the size of the the buck your talking could score anywhere between 160 and 180, what do you estimate? That would be great to see some pictures. More stories anybody?

Headed out tomorrow for a couple of days. hopefully the storm has moved them around a little and visibilty will let me get up and get set where I want.

good luck, if you need some encouragement, on my way to work this morning it was neat to see the eastern slope of the Cascades covered in snow, and I mean covered!! Saw a kid bring in a 170-ish buck yesterday, lot's of character though.

We quit hunting Teanaway about 17 years ago when hunters started getting shot by roadhunters shooting at movement. One of my cousins shot a 36" 4x4 the last year we hunted there. We were at the foot of the Snow Creek Glacier. What a pack out.

I have a love hate relationship with the teanaway. I've been hunting the unit since I was 12. and have hunted it to some extent every year since. First the hate part, last year I know of 4 trophy bulls found with the heads cut off. I myself found a 5 poiunt that was shot and just left to wrought. I've found two points and spikes left were they fell, not meeting the 3 point min. for deer. Every closed road, after opening day, will have the locks on the gates cut, drilled, or shot off(sometimes replaced with someones own lock!)with four wheeler, motorcycle ,and 4x4 tracks in the dirt. People canyon shoot and my dad's buddy had a bullet wizz over his head last year. That's the stuff that makes my blood boil and sends me to the top of distant peaks. Now for the love part, it's beautiful country, I've seen more animals in there than anywhere else in my lifetime(including some trophy's). there are big bucks, on opening dayI know of a 36" four point shot this year. and not just a few that have surpassed the 30" mark over the years. anyway , that's my two cents.

I'm sorry for the negative experiences but happy to hear of quality animals. If a guy gets in the back country you can avoid most of those situations and increase your chance for trophy potential. Where did the 36 incher come out of and do you have any pictues of these bucks?

Here are two from our camp. The nice buck has good size/mass and was just over 25" wide. There were two that were bigger. One was wider but not as heavy,(left before I took pic) the other one had not been packed out yet. I did not find a keeper, but hiked those steep mountains. I put the sneek on a buck after seeing horns with a quick glass. After getting to 200 yards, I poked over the ridge to find that he was a wide and tall TWO point. I could not believe that he was a two point, Some strange genetics or something. He was as high and wide as a lot of four points I saw. BTW, with work, you can get away from the pretenders.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-22-04 AT 04:52PM (MST)[p]Nice Job, exactly what I wanted to see, I wonder if there's a picture out there of that 36 incher that was supposedly killed in the Teanaway. Keep in touch Polaris.

I've got an old school picture I can post, if someone wants to post it for me. Teanaway is a great area, keep the pics coming.

Hello, I have hunted the Teanaway since 1989, have had 2 quality tags , have gotten some nice bucks and small ones too, never pass up to many oppertunies, have seen 4 ,possibley 5 , giants, could never seal the deal, one guy shot a monster around 2016 scored i think 213 ,I go there every season, my dad has hunted there since 1964, have met old timers that hunted in the 50's great stories.

I saw this thread come I was no way someone is talking about big bucks in the Teanaway, although there have been a couple. I went to Ellensburg HS class of 97 and lived in the area through HS. Even back then they were a thing of the past, every once in awhile someone would get lucky on a big buck however. 04 thread I see.
