May take a look at the Kaycee area, are there many public lands there to hunt, or is it mostly private? Headed over late next week for the last week of the season!

Thanks

hunted there last week no public land 1 or two sections go bighorns to many people There is some public north of Kaycee north on the bighorn river. Seen a lot of deer there. Seen a lot of deer everywhere mostly private. Find ya a track of blm and stick with it or go high but one whole lot of pressure.

Region C in Wyoming has got to be the absolute worst when it comes to lots of hunting pressure and very limited opportunities on big bucks compared to the rest of the state.

I would have to agree with HunterScout. I'm not sure about in the Kaycee area, but I did a hunt over by Gillette last month and didn't hardly see a mule deer. I had a small private ranch leased for two days, plus I went to a big tract of public land to the north and didn't see a deer. I ended up shooting the first buck I saw on the second day because it didn't look promising for anything else. The drought isn't helping grow big racks either.
The hunter success rate in region C is pretty good. So there must be deer around, just not where I was.
Good luck!

My suggestion would be, call the F&G and ask them if they have a map showing the private and public land around that area. They usually have something pretty close that would probably help you. I hunted in between Kaycee and Buffalo a coupla' years ago and thought it was great. Give em' a call, it will help.

i haven't hunted kaycee for a few years, pretty tuff though, mostly private. i have a ranch just outside of gillette. i have seen a lot of good bucks this year, mine went 27" spread 5x5, good luck..

Just stop in and say "hi" to Chris (LeDoux)... I'm sure he'll let you on some of his 1000's of acres! :)

Theodore Roosevelt once said, "The nation behaves well if it treats the natural resources as assets which it must turn over to the next generation, INCREASED and NOT IMPAIRED in value."
