Has anyone on here had a unit 61 tag recently?
I am thinking about applying there next year and i would like to
have some idea about how good of bulls there are there.
I have enough points to draw the first rifle hunt there. Thanks

365 is the biggest I've seen come out of there in recent years. Probably ought to go ahead and use the points because you will die of old age before you draw unit 2. maybe think about 76 as well.

I had the tag for first season 3 years ago. Only 1 problem with this tag. To many cow elk hunters. Good tag. My hunting buddy killed a 363 8x6. I passed on smaller bulls and had tag soup. Burned 10 points. If you have the points go with a muzzy hunt. Any more questions feel free to ask. I had a friend hunting there this past year chasing a 400 class bull. Never could connect.

Well it kinda depends on what kinda bull you're looking for. If your just looking for a solid 300 class bull that 61 or 76 will produce. But if you want the biggest bull possible and the best shot possible 2, 201, and 10 are you best options. Im not saying there are not big bulls in unit 61 or 76, there are just less of them.

Thanks for the info guys.
I would hope for a chance at a 330 plus bull, already have a 350 on the wall but like Beanman said il probably die of old age before Ihave enough points to draw one of those top units.
Ihave about decieded to just use my points on 61 or maybe 76,dont know much about that one and at least get one more good hunt in.

I have also wondered if 61 is worth burning 11 points on. In my family 5 of us have 11 points and would like to go on a good archery hunt. I know it is not going to be like hunting here in Southern Utah, but I would like to have a chance at a 330-350 class bull. Any better options?

I was deer hunting in Area 61 (muzzle) a couple years ago in September. One day I saw 13 bulls all together. None were real big (maybe half were 6X6) but to see that many bulls together that time of year was unreal. This area is also pretty easy yo get around in if that is a consideration.

I have 17 NR points. I was hoping for area 2 but doubt I will ever see that area for a rifle or ML hunt. I am thinking of area 10 archery which i may be able to draw.

Hunted 61 for Deer in 07, 3rd season. Saw 7 6point bulls, best around 300. Applied for 1st rifle last 2 years, no tag! With 13 NR points, I just want to get it over with. Either archery or 4th season for me. 4th scares me cause 10 points got that tag in 04,05,06 BUT there was only 1 NR tag in 06. What if Mr. 15 NR points applies???= NO TAG!

What I'd like to do is hunt archery and then have my dad whose 72 hunt 1st rifle with his 14 NR points. I should have a good idea where to take him if I've been hunting for 2 weeks, less than a month earlier. Problem is, he wants to do what I do and I think archery will be too physical for him.
