Wyoming Unit 100

Looking for any info on Unit 100 in Wyoming. I only bow hunt for elk here in Oregon, but would like to take my dad on a high success rifle hunt in the next few years. We both have 2 points and are now trying to figure out what unit to start applying for. What do you guys think of this unit?

My buddy had that tag last year, saw a lot of 260 class 6x6's hard to get close to the elk and they were moving about 10 miles a day, I went with him archery hunting for 3 days and saw 76 different bulls, only 1 340 or so bull, and only about 10 cows but the deer rifle opens before the elk rifle so when he went back he had trouble finding anything worth shooting.

Getting ready to apply in Wyoming. Anyone else have any input on this unit? Unit 100

Thanks
Rick

Thanks, ChesterWyo! I'll give ol' Ernesto a shout later. By the way, what do you think of unit 100 or some of the other southern Wyoming elk units... I too have 2 preference points and would like to burn them in the next couple of years before Wyoming Gamd & Fish Dept. raise the fees some more...

Thanks for the help in advance!!!

If you are serious about a tag in the next couple of years, better pick something with better draw odds than 100. 2% draw odds means it could take 50 years, and averages 25 as long as you stay in the top pool.

I hunted here in 2006. It's a fun and unique elk hunt. Saw a large number of elk every time I went into the area whether scouting or hunting. During the rifle hunt, I would advise glassing from a high vantage point. When the shooting starts, the elk funnel into draws and bed into the deep sage (very tall sage forests). Once they are hidden in the sage, a guy can stalk in for a close shot.

If you draw the tag, you'll hear a lot of talk about 350 and 360 bulls. The best bull I saw was maybe 340. With the G&F increasing the bull quota I think a guy will find most of your shooter type bulls to be in the low 300 class.

All in all, it's a great hunt that is more like a typical Wyoming antelope hunt. I'd like to hunt it again, but the odds are so remote of me ever drawing again, and I won't pay the $1,121 for a special cow tag. Best of luck to all that apply!
