I was sucessfull on my late late, the problem is he has two broken points the first and sixth on one side. I hear you can fix them or should I just be happy with what I got. Any idea on the cost to do this?

I debated for about a month then decided to fix mine, very glad I did!!! If you do I strongly suggest not to use shed antler but find someone to cast it.

I am with littlefoot on this one. It is what it is. If the broken part matters then maybe you should have waited for another bull? What I am saying is; if it was good enough to shoot, then he is good as he is.

I have a badly broken Wyoming bull. I could not bring myself to fix him. I knew no matter what I did, the fixed part was fake. I had no idea for sure what was broke. Kind of like adding a cheater when he never had one? Maybe not that drastic, but you know what I am saying. Maybe you will put on a 13" point when it should really be 9"? You will never know for sure.

Be happy with what you have. Good luck whatever you decide. These are just my opinions.

It's a personal choice. You obviously are interested in doing it or you wouldn't have asked. Maybe it's the best bull you've taken & hunting elk isn't something you'll be able to do everyear? Or there's something special about this one. Do what you think is the best decision that comes from the heart.
We called a bull in this year for a good friend & on his death run he smacked right into a tree & busted a tine clean off, could've easily lost more by the impact. He found the 3-pieces & epoxied them together & back onto the rack. He put some colored wood filler in the voids & sanded it to shape when hardened. You cannot tell at all the tine was ever broke! It looks great & it looks better than without the busted tine. Again, it's a personal choice!
By the way it's about a 100.00 to have 2 tines fixed.

Id leave it busted unless he did it after he was shot. Otherwise, you might as well just have your taxi start creating your next years bull now.

personally, i would fix them. my dad got a bull a couple years ago with a couple busted points and it was i think $50 per point to fix.

I have a couple broken bulls, one of which is missing half an antler. I probably won't fix them mostly for the reasons the others have stated above.

On the other hand, a buddy of mine compared it to your wife asking if you wanted her to get implants. What would you say to that?

I agree, you should have him mounted the way you killed him.A taxidermist doesn't know how long the broken points really were , they usually make a cast out of the oppisite side. Just have him mounted as he is, broken antlers give some character...

Most taxidermists charge by the inch so thats as far as price goes. As said before its your decision.

I opted to leave one as is and now every time I look at it I wish I would wave had it fixed.

My buddy took a real nice 7-point with a broken main beam just above the 4th on the opposite antler. He repaired the broken side using a fiberglass mold that he created from another one of his trophies. Finished product looks awesome, and I can't tell that it was ever broken. It's going to make a beautiful mount.

It's your trophy, do whatever you think you'll enjoy looking at the most, and don't worry about what others might think.

I shot a bull at the base of his G2 and blew it clean off. I left it broken. Makes a great story.
