HI everyone, I'm new to this site, Ive visited a bunch but this is my first post. I was just talking with my brother the other day, reliving our hunt and wishing we had had one more weekend to go after a few bucks we had come accross. It just seems unfair that bow hunters practically have all fall to hunt and we get 8 days with only 1 weekend. Anyone else like to see it stretched to at least one more weekend?
thanks RAINMAN

RAINMAN, ITS A LAW HERE AT MM TO FIRST TELL US WHERE YOUR FROM, SECTION 13, PARAGRAPH 4, LINES 4,5,&6. WELCOME TO THE HOOD, LOTS OF GOOD INFO., HUNTERS, GEAR, & STUFF. GOOD LUCK & HAVE FUN. YD.

First off rainman welcome to MM I agree with ya that at least the utah muzz hunt should be at least 10 days plus i think they should extend the Nov elk hunt to 12 days like the general rifle what can you say though this is utah and the only way thats gonna happen is if you go to the RAC meetings.

Well welcome to the site. Here in Utah if your in the dedicated hunter program you get to hunt all three, so I have a hard time complaining its a great deal. I am a archery hunter mainly and thats the weapon I choose and I would like to thank the Utah Bowmans Association for their organized efforts and their willingness to help Utahs wildlife instead of destroying like some other groups like the "S"illy "F"reaking "W"hiners. Bowhunters in Utah are never going to complain and why should we, longer hunt dates no pressure, no people and plenty of critters to see that time of year. Im sure your not from Utah because if you are heres a program that cures that horrible disease of complaing for Deer.

Hi

I hunt with a variety of weapons.

Here's how I see it. If I can see the animal and have a centerfire rifle, the hunt is over.

If I can see the animal and have a muzzy I have to close down to 300 yards, 200 is better(where the wind will have an effect on both smell and bullet drift)

If I can see the animal and have archery gear, I still have to close down to 50 yards or less(I prefer 30 yards or less due to time of flight issues etc.....)

So I go from just having to see a shooter, to having to close in to 200-300 yards to having to close in to their own area with a bow.

I'm not sure thats the answer you wanted, but in my opinion it has something to do with how the seasons are set. I just got back from a New Mexico Muzzy hunt. 5 days I could not get my deer(the one I was chasing) mostly due to horrible weather patterns. But had I seen him during those days he was a gonner. Translate that to bow and I could have seen him every day and never even come close to a shot due to winds, thermals etc....

I don't know if that makes it seem more fair or not. I do know that I don't have to practice with a rifle or Muzzy. Just hold it still, at the right place, add the wind, and shoot. Where as with a bow I have to constantly practice. If for nothing else, just to keep my muscles loose and built up for the draw.

Personally I suspect it has to do with harvest ratios. Keep the more modern seasons open longer and you have a higher kill rate which probably cannot be sustained. But to provide more time afield you can regulate with limited entry hunts.

Thanks for the replys, Sorry for no intro on myself. Im a lehi ut resident, lived here most my life. Im 32, my family has always hunted.
I have nothing against bow hunters, believe me I love the bow hunt, just that that time of year is hard for me to get out. I have done the dedicated hunter program, liked it for the most part, just felt like where I couldnt bow hunt much I was getting the short end so I tried focusing on the muzzy hunt. Now its been two years of just the black powder hunt and I guess I just got frustrated with only one weekend to get after it.
Unless they lengthen it which I doubt, I probably will go back to the dedicated hunter, and yes, I do need to attend the rac meetings, another good reason to do the program. Its just that if the muzzy were a few days longer it would be the ideal hunt for me. NO worries, and thanks again for the input, Jer

Thats the reason I chose the Dedicated program I am out of town alot and this allows me to choose when I can go hunt.

Thats if my wife will let me Hee Hee!

Well have fun on the site its pretty informative and lots of sarcastic fellers out and about!
