Not bad I think!

Is it just me or do some of these mounts look better than what is returned from the taxidermist. I think if you want a good European mount you have to do it yourself. Those that have done their own know how much time it takes to do one.

Those poor taxidermists would go broke if they actually put the same time in for the prices they charge.

Nice job!

Looks great spike, and as for the comment about the taxidermists thats a pretty low blow if you actually did some taxidermy of your own maybe you would realize the amount of time that the good ones do put into their work, maybe then you would learn to respect the prices that they are charging! Sorry just pisses me off when people come on to sites like this and moan and groan about what others do as a business, if you don't like it thats fine just keep your mouth shut!

Sorry I was not trying to tear down the work of any taxidermists. I was actually trying to say great job on the mount, great do it yourself job and taxidermist don't get paid enough for what they do. It was a bas job on my part!

I have done my own European mounts and had several different taxidermists do a few for me also. Mine have turned out better. I think the reason is like I was trying to say is the taxidermist wont make any money trying to do as good as a job as you can do your self on European mounts They don't charge enough was my point. The last skull I did was my cougar it took me half a day simmering the meat off, several hours applying peroxide and magnesium chloride to get the skull as white as I like them.

If a taxidermist would have spent as much time as I did he would have turned out an excellent product but he wouldn't have made any money either.
I probably butchered what I was trying to say again so sorry if I offend you.
You taxidermist are way under paid for what you do.

Sorry SW the way your first post reads makes it sound like you were talking bad about taxidermists, but now that you have explained what you meant I am sorry for saying my 2 cents. I really don't think a lot of people who hunt realize the amount of work and time that goes into doing taxidermy work and a lot of people whine and groan about turn around times, I can tell everyone this, if you want your animal to be returned to you quick you are going to get a half a@#ed mount, but if you let the taxidermist take his time you will be happy with the results! I have done some taxidermy before, but not near as much as my brother does, and I can tell you if you let the artists that they are do their work you will be glad with the results, just like a painter you wouldn't want to rush a painter cuz that is a lot of money to pay for a crappy painting!

LAST EDITED ON Dec-20-07 AT 04:14PM (MST)[p]Good job on your Euro. It looks very nice and you should be proud.

I tend to agree with Scott. Many times in the rush to complete a job some professionals may not do it as well as a client could. This applies to everything in life, from painting your house to cooking a meal. As long as a person has the drive and knowledge then they might do a better job than some professionals.

Some taxidermists do crap work slow. Some do excellent work fast. Go see their finished, everyday product before handing over your trophy. Euro mounts should be no different than head mounts. If someone is paying you then the finished product should be done right.

Scott, I still owe you a euro mount for your help packing out my moose.

Those European mounts are sure nice Mike! I wouldn't think twice about sending you my next year?s European mounts. Thanks for the offer on the European mount this year but I already finished mine. How about a moose stake instead? I really didn't do that much and really didn't expect anything in return. I would still do it again.

So have you had David Neilson score that moose yet? Is it the next state record archery moose? It was the largest animal I have every seen on the ground.

There is nothing I like better than to look at good taxidermy work hanging on the wall. It sure helps you remember the moment.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-20-07 AT 08:10PM (MST)[p]Scott- the offer stands into the future if you want me to do one for you. I know you didn't help me out hoping for something in return. That is why I'd do a Euro for you. And you are welcome to some moose meat. PM me your address/contact info and I will deliver it to you.

The moose hasn't been scored yet. I am not sure if I will or not. All I know is he was big enough....... all 53"+ wide..... :)
