Book Cliffs Success

Okay, let's here about the big hogs coming out of the Book Cliffs this year. I was up there a week before the hunt, saw a lot of deer-one real nice 4 point-and had a lot of fun.

My brother ended up shooting about a 24" 4 point the last day he was there with his muzzleloader. It is a beuatiful buck. He saw a few bigger but wasn't able to get on them for a good shot. He had a great hunt and fun week.

I know there are more stories than just this one. Let's seem some pictures too!

Come on guys! Let's hear some more. I know the stories and pics are out there.

I shot a 31 1/2 with deep forks. It is a great typical that scores 193. It was a great hunt. We saw lots of four-pointers up to about 26-27 and some real nice 3-points as well. I almost shot a big 3-point which we had scouted and am glad I held out. I am goint to try to post some pictures on main board.

Wow!, it sounds like you had a lot of fun. What area were you guys hunting in (generally)? I'm looking forward to the pics. Was this during the rifle hunt? Thanks.

My dad hunted with a muzzleloader and ended up taking a 24 inch wide 26 inch tall 2x3. We saw quite a few nice 4-points and one monster with a couple of cheaters that my dad missed a few times, he had him within 10 yards but with all the rain the gun got a little wet and wouldn't fire. We did see about 25 different 6-point bull elk. We hunted near the top.

It was the rifle hunt and we arrived 3 days early. Shawn Labrum took us out scouting 2 days before the hunt and showed us some video of bucks he saw up high on the archery and muzzleloader hunts. It rained and snowed the three days before the hunt and the bucks were starting to rut. There were 24-26 inch bucks with the does, which we thought would be replaced by big bucks. I'll bet the end of the hunt was real good as another storm was moving in when we left after the 4th day of the season. The deer had moved down lower and there was plenty of them. We hunted in the McCook ridge area and the drainages falling off the ridge. There were so many fawns that it looks like it will only get better. The weather really helped us out as other guides, including shawn, said it was the eariest rut yet. Shawn also said it was the best year for horns he had seen.

Well, I didn't draw a tag. My Dad did though. We ended up getting him a 31 incher. My brother had a general season tag, and we were able to get him a 27 inch 6 point. I would love to post, but I am still using a 35 mm camera. I guess I could scan the pics and post then.

My brother and my friend harvested 2 great bucks during the muzzleloader hunt. It was just an awesome hunt all around as we saw bears and a few huge rutting bulls, along with lots of great bucks. I would love to post some photos if someone could help me out on that. I have never done it and I am not sure how to do it.

I will email the pic of my brothers buck if someone wants to post it for me. It isn't as big as some of the ones mentioned above but he had a great time. He worked his butt off trying to get a decent shot at a bigger one and after losing sight of him on the last day he was headign back to camp to pack up and head home. That is when he spotted this buck. He made a good stock and great shot and as I said he had a wonderful week down there. I don't really know where he was hunting. I was not with him and don't knwo the area. He said something about the plateau, whatever that means if anything.

Post your email if you would be willing to post this for me. Thanks, Travis

We saw very few deer out there while we were out there elk hunting. What general areas were you guys hunting? We hunted around Moon Ridge.

We hunted much further east than Moon Ridge, closer to Colorado. I scouted 4 times before the hunt and only saw a shortage of bucks the very first time I went. But, that's because I didn't know where I was going. It didn't take long to find the bucks. One weekend the weather was cloudy and raining, and we saw over 140 bucks!
